I have had a popping noise on my suburban since I bought it about 3 months ago. It's in the front end. It happens the first time I hit my brakes in drive after I just was in reverse and hit the brakes.

As I mentioned, it only happens once. Also, I sometimes here it when I hit the brakes in reverse. But it always only happens once.

Does this sound like a brake problem, a worn bushing, or something else? How do I check my bushings to see if they are worn or not (other than visible inspection)?

hmmmmm does it squeak noticably while driving? can u stand on the bumper and it squeak if so its the control arm bushings

Nope, there's no squeaking at all. Just the popping when I hit the brakes for the first time.

have u tried just spraying some brake cleaner all over the rotors and the pads?

Nope, I haven't had the time to look at it yet. Next week I'm going to hopefully hit some of these neglected items. That's why I'm inquiring so maybe I can go into it with some insight.

Sounds like bushing play to me. I would jack it up, and push, pull, wiggle all the steering parts, and ball joints...

Thanks, I'll try that as soon as I get time to breath.

Hopefully I'll be attacking the truck next week and get some stuff done. The poor thing has been so neglected.

Hey Big Red,

You're starting to sound like I feel. Life is pretty hectic here, too. I keep asking questions about things that need doing on my truck, but can't seem to find the time to use all the great advice I'm getting.

The one concellation - these are CHEVY trucks!!! Although neglect can kill a friendship - it usually takes a lot more than simple neglect to kill a CHEVY
