intake/exhaust gasket installation

Now I replaced the intake/exhaust gasket a couple months ago and within a month I had an exhaust leak. the first reason I changed it out was due to a intake and exhaust leak. Well before, I did not ask around I wasn't sure which way the gasket was suppose to go. I assumed it was the metallic side towards the intake/exhaust manifolds. The problem is it will only fit one way. Here's some pics and lets me know if it matters or not. oh it the gasket only fits with the metallic side towards the head of the engine. I know this may be a no brainer. but Im just double checking due to the hassle of taking the married manifolds on and off. Check the box the gaskets came in and it says 78 292.

First pic is the metallic side towards the engine. Everything lines up. Second pic is metallic side towards the manifolds, the intake and exhaust ports line up but the bolt holes dont. third picture is a better view of the bolt holes not lining up with the metallic side facing towards manifolds. also in the third pic the whitish port on the left is where the old leak was at. the white port on the right is where the current leak is at.
