clearance/running lights?

While looking for a donor cab I found a decent one sitting at a body shop, on top of a connex storage van (try climbing one of those in the snow). Looks to be a 69/70 and has good rockers/cab corners, which is a big surprise. It has the 5 clearance lights on it, with the dimples in the roof. Anyone had any experience/problems with these, like leaks into the inner roof and rusting problems? Anyone know what the option code for these was? How about replacement lens?

Not my first preference, but finding a good cab is not as easy as it would seem.

I don't think there was any more of a rust problem with a truck with roof marker lamp's than one with out. You can buy the lenses and gaskets new. The lights were standard on trucks with dual rear wheels, optional on all other trucks. Sounds like a good find. There are lots of people on here that would like to have that cab.

My truck has the lights, and from what I can tell, they did not cause any unwanted side effects. For instance, my truck is the only truck in Ohio that is not rusted out over the windshield
seriously though, when I took the old lenses off to change them because they were cracked garbage, even then the roof didnt leak. there was no rust inside the roof from what I could see, just overspray. I put on 5 of the newer style, and no leaks to date. Now if the weatherstripping and windshield gasket were that good....

as a side note, its kinda neat to pull the marker lights off if your truck's paint is original, because there will be a little circle of paint under each one that is in perfect condition like the day it left the assembly line. my truck was obviously faded and had been re-painted by a p/o, and it was neat to see the original color.

Thanks guys, especially CPNE. The site from CPNE has great info on these. Never considered the cab lights but now they're interesting. By the way, the cab I looked at had the "hockey puck" style lights, which are definitely unique. Since I'm the curious type, I drove by a couple construction yards that have C50's sitting around, and both of them had the hockey puck style clearance lights.

I have the hockey puck lights on my truck, even though the cab on my truck doesn't have the roof pads. I just drilled the holes and installed 'em, they haven't leaked since I put 'em on. It's been a couple months too.

Here's a pic of a '69 GMC 3500 with the hockey puck style lenses. When I installed 'em on my truck it was pretty easy, the hardest part was running the wires to the lights.

I looked all over for hockey pucks original on my 69. The only repops I could find were the newer style so I took a chance and bought them and they fit perfect but I liked the other style better...

Speaking of wiring, where does the wiring harness route to? Down the windshield pillars to the fuse block--down the back of the cab to the taillight wiring?
