Heater Core Question

I've got a leak inside the cab of my '72 Fleetside. It has A/C also. The leak (anti-freeze leak) is coming from underneath the dash where all of the heater/AC boxes are. Would this most likely be a heater core leak or what? How do you get to the heater core? Thanks.

Yep, probably a blown core. To stop the madness, splice the two hoses that run into the firewall on the passenger's side together. This will bypass the core and prevent further leaks. Hell, you'll be able to drive the truck anywhere you want to go (although it might be a bit cold) that way.

Replacing the core on an A/C truck is a bit more of a pain. It helps to have a buddy that can help you get stuff aligned and whatnot, but it's not absolutely necessary. It's been a while since I've done it, but IIRC you'll have to disconnect the hoses, pull the glovebox liner, take out the heater box, swap the core and then put it all back together.

There are some good threads on the subject here, here, here, here and here. Good luck!

Thanks Mutt! Those links really helped a lot. I tried to do a search, but couldn't get anything like that to come up. Appreciate it much.

It also helps to go ahead and drop the passenger fenderwell.
