Need help Identifying this transmission.

A couple of years ago I took this transmission out of an Astro van. I do not believe that it was the original transmission. The van was heavily modified with a V-8 conversion. The transmission was "supposedly" re-built with corvette internals. I am not sure whether or not that is true, however I did get the chance to drive the van before taking it apart and the trans worked well.

Can anyone help me narrow down the year of production and provide any other details on the tranny?
I'll post some better pics tomorrow.

The plan is to install it in my Blazer behind an early 80's 350. I Found this link http://transmissioncenter.net/700R4_Swap_Info.htm. The install seems pretty simple. I have never dealt with this style of transmission before, what is the plug with the three wires for? I think it is for the T.C. Lock-up. What is the Lock-up for and do I need it?

Its a 87-93 700R4, GM calls them a 4L60.
The plug is for the TCC, It Needs to function.
The "Vette" 700R4 is not that different..."093" 2nd piston, Different 3-4 shift valve, & different governor calibration/diamond shaped weights.
Its imperative that the TV valve cable is set correctly.
Search this forum for lock-up & TV valve set-up.

I instinctively roll my eyes when I hear the term "Vette"

Thanks for the response. I completely agree with you in regards to the "corvette " claims.

I am new to this style of transmission. I understand how imperative it is for the TV cable to be set up properly. You said the plug is for the TCC, what does that stand for? And what exactly does it do?

TCC stands for Torque Converter Clutch.

isn't a 700r and a 4l60 different as the 4l60 takes some kind of controller? there is a 4l60e thats maybe i am talking about. if it's a 700r you can also use a non lockup conv.

GM renamed the 700R4 to 4L60 in an effort to standardize their naming conventions across all transmission models. Then the 4L60E came along later, which is the electronic version.

If I recall, the convention decodes as follows:

4 = 4 speed (6 = 6 speed, etc)
L = longitudinal (T = transverse for FWD)
60 = series (60, 65, 80, etc)
E = electronic control
