Add sending unit to existing tanks?

I've been working on my 69 LWB for a while now and I think it's about ready for the road. Only thing concerning me is the fuel tanks, the PO installed 2 tanks (custom built i think) with the fill caps are in each wheel well. The gas gauge doesn't work for either tank, is it possible to add a sending unit to these? Also considering replacing with something else as the caps on these tanks are hard to get on and leak if not screwed on all the way.

I guess it depends on what the tanks are. There are universal sending units that you can put in a tank as long as you gave a flat area to screw it to. Make sure you get a 0-90ohm unit to work with our gages. Here is one source.

Thanks for the link, that might be just what in need. When i get home from holiday travel I'll see if I can find a way to mount it.
