Pictures of the back of your truck please
Show me a picture of the back of your 55 to 59. Tail gate view, more or less together.
I need ideas for the back EDIT I found the picture. I don't like my triangle piece. The hole in the end of the bed side, my after market bed sides, the hole is different than the originals. I bought lights to fit the hole of a ford bed side and a short piece of DOM tubing and made it fit. Last edited by MD2020; 11-23-2022 at 05:11 PM. |

Re: Pictures please
On the tan truck I have posted a few times before they welded in what looks like they welded in a freeze (expansion) plug concave side out..

Re: Pictures please
On this one it l looks like they used billet plugs for the ends.
I saw those on a later stepside at Vintiques too. I was thinking of just finding correct size round reflectors for my 48. That should get me past the required reflector on the rear thing. That is something that a lot of custom car and truck guys miss the boat on and could get a ticket for in this state and probably the majority of states.

Re: Pictures please
I did this quickly in photoshop. Not as fancy as the others but uses what you have there...

Re: Pictures please
dunno what your plan will be but you may consider deleting the chains if you plan on nice paint
a hidden latch is nice along with some hidden links to stop the gate at the "level with the ground" point you could sheet the void area over for a smooth look and install a latch set up with a center release handle from a new style truck lots of boxes are getting the rounded off rear corners to smooth things out dunno you bumper style, if any, but you could fab up a lower valance below the tailgate. installing lights in the valance may mean they are harder to see and usually means a side marker will be required you have any ideas floating around in your brain? stuff you like or dislike? |

Re: Pictures please
Yes I got rid of the chain and latch and using seat belt buckle to hold it closed.
Look at the picture again, all smoothed out. Standard Bumper and brackets and the panel below the tailgate that holds the bedsides square. Last edited by MD2020; 11-27-2022 at 12:38 PM. |

Cool stuff guy's
I like the rounded corners the most but I also like the tail lights in the hole. I will just modify the triangle some. Last edited by MD2020; 12-04-2022 at 02:17 PM. |

Re: Pictures please
I’m with you MD the round corner really finish it off but I’d like to have more light back there, I thought about drilling a couple holes in the stack pocket and putting flush led’s in there too.

Re: Pictures please
Yes I want to put one of those 48" long LED strip below the tail gate.
It may or may not look good on the truck but I want more lights. I have the factory and the ones that go in the hole. |

I saw part of it a year or two ago. Hammer and dolly rear fenders and some kind of sand body filler on the inside of the cab, upper side, back and roof. |

Re: Pictures please
I was thinking more of the custom mods, dash, pancake hood, shaved drip rails, rounded door corners, door handles, rounded box corners, etc.

If I were to redo my tailgate area, I'd follow your lead. Very nice

Re: Pictures please
MD, are you talking about slicksand primer surfacer? have you tried it and found it is hard to work with or it is a bad product or you simply dont recommend that type of product? thats something others would benefit from knowing, I have heard of others using it with no problems, its just a thick, high build primer that hardens up fast and sands easy, correct? what product do you recommend?
