converting a longbed to a short bed

Ive seen people do this but I dont know how to do this. I have to replace all the rear corssmembers do to rust and I am going to replace the rear end, springs and relocate the shocks so i figure I may as well shorten it up. Im going to try to find a short box instead of cutting up my long box. How and where do you shorten the frame to convert it?

Re: converting a longbed to a short bed

you need to come south and get a rust free short frame. I don't have one at the moment but I'm sure I can find you one!

Re: converting a longbed to a short bed

I'm taking mine out from behind the cab. I am building a 4 link so I see no reason to cut the usual section under the frame. Also the section I am cutting is the wide section of the frame above the axle doing that I will gain about 2" on each side for more clearance. Just my .02

Re: converting a longbed to a short bed

I'm just going to pull the cab and take it out from there. A local blasting shop will blast and powder coat my frame for $300.

300 bucks !!!! That sounds like a good deal to me.

As I read your posts I keep thinking what's ahead for me with my C10. Although my C10 is already a shortbed my plans to do a back half, narrowed 9" F**d rear end with ladder bar setup & "alter" the wheelbase by moving the rear axle 5" forward I will be watching this thread closely.

Good luck, take your time and post lots of pictures.
