Original radiator for '72 402/400 Cheyenne

Anyone have some pictures, and/or description, of an original radiator for a '72 bbc/auto truck? I *thought* I had what was the original in my '72, but the radiator shop disagrees...would the original tank on the passenger side have a funky heater hose (3/4") inlet that was plummed to the water pump or intake?

I don't think so!, but I am not for sure.

This pic may not help but it is the only one I can find. all original BB/ 4 core radiators that I have seen have had the rectanle/square on the top of them.

the original harrison radiator from our truck does have a 3/4 inlet in the pass side tank. When I put an aftermarket in my truck a few years back I had the radiator shop put the inlet in the new one as well.

The intake outlet went to the heater valve on the inner fender, To the heater core, Out of the heater core to the radiator. Factory BBC/air/auto setup.

Big blocks had the big radiator, same as HD on small block and you got your answer on the heater neck.

Re: Original radiator for '72 402/400 Cheyenne

For a big block the heater hose nipple on the radiator can't be used on an AC truck with an A6 compressor...which is stock. It will interfere with the clutch/pulley on the a6 air conditioning compressor. The AC Compressor brackets have a small metal bracket on the front to retain the heater hose that goes...to the water pump.

So guess what that means.. NO AC..the hose could have gone to the radiator.

Not much help..but some info to have.

Re: Original radiator for '72 402/400 Cheyenne

I believe 350 and 402 with A/T and A/C would have had the upper heater hose connected to the 3/4 fitting on the radiator. Manual transmission vehicles would have the upper heater hose connected to the water pump. All lower heater hoses goes through the cable-operated valve to a fitting on the intake manifold.

there shouldn't be a cable-operated valve in there... there's one controlled by vacuum mounted on the fenderwell though.

Re: Original radiator for '72 402/400 Cheyenne

My 72 402 truck has the heater hose going to the radiator. It also has A/C. It has 60K original miles on it and still has the original hoses on it. I have a pic, but I dont see where you add pictures any more??
