She still needs more work, but that's the first coat.

I'm thinking I'm gonna go black on the valve covers, oil pan, timing cover, and intake. What do ya think?

That will look awesome. Once I got my block painted, I was soooo happy friends talked me into doing it. Well worth the time spent doing the prep work.

Jason, you going with a stock intake and valve covers? I think I would paint the intake alluminum, and maybe black on the covers.
If you know anyone who can air brush, you could have something stupid painted on the vlave covers..."Jason's 69" Or somethign like that.
I'd have something like that on my stock caddy covers...but I don't know anyone with that kind of tallent.

Well, it's gonna be the performer intake that is on my truck now. And yes I'm gonna be looking for some stock valve covers (don't ask). The perfomer is orange now, but needs to be repainted, and I want some contrast.

Grumpy Jenkins used to paint the whole engine black, because black produces heat, which is energy, which is HORSEPOWER!!!!! If you learn to airbrush, racedvl, we can send all our valve covers to you!!!

I was just outside installing the timing chain and the oil pump and what not, and these pictures really do it no justice.

Seems to me true chevy orange is not quite as bright as some may think. Dubies block looks more true than others as does longhornmail. My new motor went in this week and we used POR 15 engine paint Chevy orange. It is not so NEON, but when dried it matched perfectly to the stock valve covers from 1971~!!!!! Just my 2 cnts worth.

brewski, you are right about that.
I have tried a few (spray bomb) brands and some are darker than others...I picked the best looking one (IMO) and ran with it.

A buddy of mine that has been dabbling in airbrushing has gone semi-pro. I have no idea what it may cost you, but if you're serious drop Scott a line or give him a call.
