Re: I caught the bug

Well my wife took to the truck so now she wants it for herself. So the plans for it have changed. We are now going to take the old 4 speed out and put in a borgwarner t-5 and put a tpi on it. go to something like 3.07 gears in the rear. and probably put her down 2" in the front and 3" in the rear. paint her green and white and call it done. however the main piority is jusr to get it running and driving for her plan to get it started for the first time by the end of the week.

Re: I caught the bug

I like the plans for it. There is a guy round here that put a T-5 is his 68, and he said that he loves it.

Re: I caught the bug

Well I guess an update is due. I came home from afghanistan november and on this past sunday was my first time home since then. I am proud to say that i got the truck moving under its own power for the first time since i have owned it. heres some things i did to it, I put a big block radiator in it, clutch linkages, custom made a clutch fan out of a ford fan off of a 5.0, wired the entire engine bay, and got an engine to start for the first time since i onwed it.

Re: I caught the bug

i would suggest something around a 3.42.....perfect compromise between the 3.73 and 3.07/3.08. and tbi will get you good economy too.

my dad's 99 burb 2wd w/ 350 and overdrive gets 22mpg with a 3.42 rear and has plenty of towing power. his previous 87 burb got a best of 18 w/ wimpy 3.08 and didn't lose any mileage with a 3.73 swap. the 3.08 was too soft and the trans was always shift hunting on all these new england hills.
