which driveshaft with porterbuilt suspension?

Which driveshaft does anyone use? Small or larger 2 piece? I have both and am curious...

What do you mean by small or large?
Diameter?

If you are asking whether most guys use 1 or 2 piece driveshaft..... most will use a 2-piece driveshaft. I am not sure what you mean by large or small either, but believe you mean 1 or 2 piece.

If you are using a stage 1 rear, then a 1-piece will be fine. I should have asked which PB rear system you were running.

I will be running extreme reaf and front.. laying frame of course. I have a small diameter and a larger diameter shaft. Both have different size carrier bearing. I'm curious if I can use the smaller shaft cuz I have a billet carrier bearing that is small size.. one truck had 3speed other had 4 speed floor shift trans. 4 speed had the larger shaft and larger carrier bearing.

You need a driveshaft with a rear slip yoke to allow for change in total driveshaft length as the suspension cycles thru its travel.
You also need a small enough diameter front shaft to go thru the trailing arm crossmember at the correct angle.
Any pics you have would be great.
Hopefully Nate Porter himself will see this thread.

Both driveshafts have slip yokes and are 2 pieces. Just different design...

This is the style you need.
1) Slip yoke in the trans.
2) Short shaft with splines on the back end.
3) correctly spaced "horse shoe" style carrier bearing.
4) 2nd slip yoke
5) correct length 2nd shaft that will move on the front shaft's splines

Yikes, billet carrier bearings, asking others how long their shafts are, no mention of a ujoint is only designed to handle 3* (a double cardain can handle 6*).

You don't need a puller to remove a carrier bearing, they can be cut off with a wizzer wheel, why not have a driveline shop replace the bearing for you since the shaft will need to be ballanced after replacing the carrier bearing anyways? Really, I've checked dozens before and after carrier bearing replacement, they always change.

The length of these 2 piece shafts doesn't require tubing over 2" in diameter.

Billet carrier bearings don't break, however they do transmit more vibration to the chassis, you know that vibration that caused the old carrier bearing mount to break. Also not compatible with shafts that don't have a slipyoke.

With 3 different engine stands, front mount holes and rear mount holes, and swapping stands from side to side there's about a dozen places to mount an engine in these trucks without drilling holes so the length of somebody elses driveshaft doesn't help you at all, you have to measure your truck for a custom shaft.
