pulling engine

i have the front off my 1971 k1500, and want to remove the engine transmission th350 and transfer box? i have a new 383 and want to freshen up the auto .
what the easiest way ,will it all come out the front of the truck , or is it best to split the engine and transmission and remove the transmission from below the truck?

thank you

Adrian.

Re: pulling engine

Depends. If you have a lift, it might be better to split and come out from the top and bottom. If you have a good hoist or overhead chain lift, and the front clip is already off, then I would think it would all come out the top.

Oooops.. just noticed the K. If there is room I would still think that since the front clip is off that taking all out together would be easiest. I am just not sure if the transfer case will clear everything.

Re: pulling engine

You can take the engine and trans out as a unit with either a hoist or engine crane, but you'll also need a load leveler to tilt the engine as it comes out.
Here's an example.

Click on the link in my signature below and you'll see a couple of pics of my engine being pulled with this.
