1967 Chevy 292 questions

So I just pulled this 67 chevy short bed out of the garage. It only has 30,000 miles on it and we are the second owner so I thought it would be cool to keep it all original. It has the 292 in it and i heard it has ~180hp stock? Now my plans were to put a new intake, carb, headers, distributer, cam and maybe some head work.

What kind of hp gains will i see from this?

Should i go with the two 1BBL carbs or a 4BBL setup? What kind of difference is there?

Is it possible to see 300hp out of this motor?

Also of the above listed parts, which brands would you go with?

Any help would be appreciated.

Herm,

Here's a couple of places for good info:

http://cliffordperformance.net/

http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/index.htm

http://www.34-chevy.com/

http://www.inliners.org/

Great start for you. Good Luck.

Wanna trade a Big Block Chevy 402 block, crank, and heads for that 292?

Let me know.

Re: 1967 Chevy 292 questions

I'm running a 292 L6 bored .030 over with Clifford headers and Offy intake. I have an Edelbrock 1404 4-Bbl carb. Truck is a '68 C/10 stepside. Original engine, that I crated up and stored 25 years while I ran a '67 292 block I got in a junkyard and rebuilt. [I didn't know it would take that long to wear out.] 292s are my favorite engine.
If you want extreme horse power from a "late" ['63-'74] L6 you must read Leo Santucci's book: "Chevrolet InLine Six Cylinder Power Manual."
