Where to put air tank/compressor??

Alright bagging gurus, I've been under my truck about three times looking for the best place to mount my 5gal tank and compressor. I've looked at mounting it to the frame between the bedsides (where the saddle bag option went), or towards the rear, but even when I put the tank flush against the bottom of the bed, it still seems to hang pretty low. This truck is low, so I'm worried about hitting the tank.

Where have all you guys mounted and where do you think is the best place? Thanks!

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

I have a 5 gallon directly under the bed, in front of the tailgate with a fabbed bracket, and it doesn't hang any lower than the roll pan. I actually have the tailgate rollpan skin, but it should be the same with a roll pan or a bumper.....

Put it on top of the cab, that way you can say you are an air head.

I'm gonna put mine where the saddle tanks would go.

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

We've put 2 3gals on each side of frame in rear. That way rear gas tank will fit if desired.

Two 3 gals on either side behind the rear wheels will work well.

Well wherever you want honestly inside to display, or on the frame. You got about the same room.

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

I have a 5 gallon tank, and my body guy/air bag installer couldn't find anywhere to put the tank with the gas tank in the way.

I know the 3 gals fit on side np. I would think it could go under cab maybe but dont know your space. May have to inside or change tanks.

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

I have two five gallon tanks mounted to the frame rails on my heap. The electric compressor (emergency use only) mount on the inside. And the I know the panhard bar is not adjusted correctly in the pic before somebody needs to pint that out for me.

Irishpilot, are you talkin a longbed or shortbed. I have a lwb 72 GMC and my tank fit on the framerail under the bed just behind the cab on drivers side, in front of the rear wheel. I will be installing another 1 on the opposite side.

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

chevydog,

Yeah, I have a longbed and I have plenty of lateral room, but the 5 gal tank isn't slender like some of the previous posts. Its pretty squat, and it hangs lower than the frame but not as low as the rearend. I just think speed bumps and such will pose a problem.

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

And I would like to run as low as I can. I already have a limfaq of my longtube headers up front. I love the power they provide on my 406, but I can't tuck the front and drive it. Oh well, there are pros and cons to everything...

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

Have you considered selling your tank and getting a slim 5? Sounds like it would really fit your needs better.

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

Assuming your sigline truck is a trailing arm unit, there's LOTS of room between the driveshaft and either left or right trailing arm to run the tank front to back... as shown in this sophisticated drawing below...

Re: Where to put air tank/compressor??

Yeah, I think slim one might fit better, as I have plenty of lateral room, just not a whole lot of vertical room, which is primarily what I'm worried about. I will look into it; I was just hoping I could hook this thing up soon. Even though it is cool filling up the bags at the local gas station.... :-)
