Detroit Locker / NoSpin id help?

Does anyone have access to the old Detroit NoSpin model designations?
I have seen the Eaton HO52/HO72 NoSpin locker unit labeled as a KS-10.
Does anyone know what application a NS-10 would fit?

Tractech, the current mfg. of the NoSpin/Detroit Locker does not have any info on their website, I will give them a call if I dont get an answer here.

Thanks, Chris

i.d.

Being as that model Detroit Locker was used in numerous applications, I am guessing that there is probably a difference in the bearing dimension or the axle spline compatibility. Do you have a known GM unit to measure the differences in? Maybe that is for a dana 60 or 14 bolt unit?

If it was for anything but a 14 bolt or eaton it would have a case also. Talking light duty trucks 1 ton and down. One way the check would be to count the splines with out letting it come apart.

You know, it kind of boggles my mind when I think of all the different trucks this "might" fit. Could be a Ford, IHC, AMC? Just about anything I guess.

Good catch Jim on the case, that does rule out Dana 60.
I am hoping for eaton HO72, or will settle for a 14FF!

At any rate, I was unable to hit the tech line from tractech, will try tomorrow.

Does anyone have the silver sticker on their glove box door or dash that says something like "This vehicle equipped with a Detroit NoSpin"? My new unit came with some generic install installations and this new sticker with model NS-10 on it.

And finally, from looking at this thing... If I put the unit in a vice, I should be able to hold the 2 halves together and count the axle splines right? How much pressure do the springs in one of these have?

Thanks all!
Chris

ps Bruce: hope you have a great drive down here, see you around 5am!

Yo, yo, yo! Pull that wingnut and count the splines! Should be 17 for an Eaton H052.

Chris, I forgot I had two "NoSpin" tags, one from a 68 and one from a 66. They both have a model # KS10 stamped on them. Hope this helps you.

If that's NOS , it's worth a few bucks ..did you see this ended auction recently. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6763

It has a KS10 on the box also. That should put a smile on your face. It makes a difference how you list things on ebay. I didn't see it.

Theres is not such tremendous spring pressure in there, but it would fly apart...spring and piece would fly some. I can put them together by myself with just my weight to compress the unit together. Look for the 17 spline..then you'll know if it's for your C30.

Maybe you'll get farther with them than I did.

I asked them, "I realize this hasn't been made in decades, but could you tell me what this fits?"

Their reply? "That has not been made for thirty years and I have no idea what it fits."

Real helpful, aren't they.

14 bolt would have 30 splines if I remember right. Something I read somewhere which just could be a bunch of hooey. The locker for a 14 bolt or the HO/Eatons is interchangeable with the exception of the axel spline counts. I don't remember if the axels themselves were interchangeable from 14 bolt to HO and back......

Either way if its 17 spline or 30 spline..it can be used. 17 is correct...but let me know and I'll set you on the right path.

I have the answer!

I got an email back from Tractech today!
"We appreciate your interest in our products.
The NS-10 has been replaced by a 275S17. It fits old Dana and Clark axles with a diameter of 2.06" and 24 splines."
I looked on their application page, and it lists this as a Dana planetary D/DS-18/19xxx 1530. Anyone know what that is?

I guess I will end up re-selling this on ebay as I really have no use for such a unit.

No-spins I thought were used in quite a few applications..before you list it..did you check the spline count yourself? Check with me before you sell it on ebay.

Yes and no. 14 bolt axles have different splines from the H072. So yes you could but it in the 14 bolts carrier but couldn't use the 14 bolts shafts, but supposedly the eaton shafts would work in the 14 bolt. Also, it is suppose to work the other way, 14 bolt no-spin in an eaton carrier w/ 14 bolt shafts.
