X-fer Blues (t-221)
So, pulling out of the parking lot at work Wednesday, and I hear a clunk, and my truck has a serious no-go condition.
Fortunately, I got my daughter on her plane to go back home before this all happend. So, locked the front axle in - no help. Can put truck in gear w nothing happening. Anyway, last night finished getting the X-fer out, took the inspection cover off, and everything looked OK. So I looked back at the tranny, and found the coupler sleeve with no teeth on the X-fer end... Looked back at the X-fer, and I wouldn't call them teeth on the input shaft, I'd call them stubs now... what a pisser! So now starts the search for a new X-fer or X-fer/tranny set-up. Might as well go NP205 now. Does anyone know if my existing drive shafts will work?

Sorry for your bad luck. Sorry don't know about the driveshafts. I believe the outputs are in slightly different areas height-wise so you could have a problem. Hopefully someone here knows for sure.

I might have the 465/205 you need.You'll need a longer front driveshaft and maybe a shorter rear driveshaft.The crossmember and torque bracket will also have to be moved back some.The crossmember is also different but I dont know if you can make the existing one work.I might also have one of those crossmembers from a NP205 equipped truck.

your gonna need a longer front shaft and shorter rear shaftm figure on moving the t-case crossmember back 2 inches. I used the Rockwell x-member with the 205, works fine, no problems.

LOL.Mine never sounded like that,but it was just straight pipes so that concealed all other noises..
 Mine never leaked bad either.It had a slow leak,but was never low on fluid.I guess the previous owner took good care of it.Heck,it only has 94,000 miles on it...As soon as I finish building a 355 for the truck,it and this heavy tranny/t-case combo is going back in. |

taht sucks Mine did the same thing now Im replacing it with a nv4500 and a 205. I thought I had tore the trans up and it had just been rebuilt. i dont think you will miss the jet plain sound.

I just rebuilt my T221 if you have any questions, and it's fun to hear everyone's feelings about the "airplane" hum; I agree 1969k10stepside; my straight piped cherry bombs seem to numb most everything.
