Re: Rebuilt Motor, Ticking sound
Did they thoroughly clean the block again before putting it back together?
I fear all that cam metal has been spread throughout. The Rotella is good stuff so no worries. Last edited by MySons68C20; 09-12-2022 at 06:01 PM. Reason: Missing info |

Re: Rebuilt Motor, Ticking sound
And just because it’s a roller cam, don’t assume you don’t need to crank the rpm up to 2 grand for 20 minutes like a normal break in. Cam and lifters are oiled by splash.
And use a high zinc oil. It’s a small price for many benefits. Lots of moving parts in your motor need quality oil on first fire. |

Re: Rebuilt Motor, Ticking sound
I would use the oil the machine shop guy recommends. In fact my machine shop guy sells and recommends Schaffer oil so I always just buy it from him.

Re: Rebuilt Motor, Ticking sound
Last Update
Motor is in and running very well, timing had to be set close to about 10-12 advanced, to run smooth, had a rocker arm nut loosen up, took care of that carrying very good oil pressure, on startup and any time the throttle isnt at idle the gauge is pegged to the right, after warmup at idle its still over the halfway mark Thanks for all the Replys
