Well I did it ,I read every post on replacing vent window seals and figured it didn't sound that bad.
1.Ordered seals and rivet kit with "tool"
2.Carefully held toungue at exactly the right angle and removed vent window assembly.
3.Patted myself on the back a few times ,that was even better than expected
4.drilled out old rivets and began replacing seals,this is when things started getting ugly.
5.Looked in the box of parts for "tool"oh its a punch sort of ,smashed finger several hundred times,seals in place.
6.re-insert window and it fits like @#$% in now slightly re arranged framework.
7.Decide to install @##$#$ piece of #$%# window anyway
8.Remove window as it looks worse than before and carefully insert it in backyard 4 houses away.
9.Drink a quick 6 pack while breathing returns to normal.
10.Call Chevy Duty and order two complete vent window assemblies.
11.Retrieve window from down the block and type new tutorial on vent window re- sealing.

i ordered the seal kit before, it's been in a box ever since(at least 3 years, was for my 77). I also went with just replacing the vent window assembly...

I replaced mine too, and found out the finger hammering tool was no use either. Ended up breaking the rod off of the passenger side vent, so had to put the old crappy painted ones back in. Guess I'll be ordering entire vent assemblies someday too. Jeff.

I was barely able to install an LMC vent window rebuild kit with equally as much pain and frustration. It would have been so much easier it the rivets were slightly longer. Plus, the two that connect the bottom of the window frame to the post are nearly impossible to get to. I asked a friend who restores a lot of 67-72 how he did it. He says he uses regular pop rivets with the flat side facing the the felt - the nipple side doesn't harm anything. He does use the special rivet that the kit provides for the window pivot. He also mentioned that the full assembly that can be bought usually needs a little persuading to seal properly. If you rebuild one, you'll probably need to do the same.

I was considering fixing my vent window but I know my patients wont let me think clearly!!!

I bought 2 new complete vent windows for my 67 and never could get one to seal up no matter what I did! The first set I bought I returned, the bottom hinge on the window is made of lighter gauge metal and bends real easy, and doesn't let the window work correctly. My supplier told me that only one company makes them and he quit selling them because of too many complaints like mine. I sold the truck and am now working on a 72 K10, I will not be buying new vent windows, I will be using the best set of used ones I can find. Good luck

I feel your pain brother, I have had my window rebuild kit for quite some time now and still haven't done it because of the fustration. However, I did talk to someone on here a while back and suggested that I use a c-lamp with and adapter welded on in order to punch the rivets together. Wish I remembered exactly how but I dont. Which is why I am building a roadster out of mine so I do not have to worry any longer. Thanks to my girlfriend saying, "the door looks funny not matching the bedsides." Damn, why did she say that.

New vent windows are in and looking great!!They seem to be sealing OK I reieved a little tip from a friend that helped alot Cover all the rubber in dishsoap and just keep applying more if things get tight ,they slid in real nice!!
