What front clip do I have?

Hey fellas. New to the site and I've got a question about the front clip on my 1972 2wd C10 short bed. It has front drums on it with 6 lug. I thought all 1972 had disc brakes. Does not look like the suspension clip had been swapped before. I'm wanting to get some drop spindles but want to be sure I get the right ones. How do I check this out?

Thanks
Mike

Re: What front clip do I have?

Welcome to the site!

72s came with disc brakes. Its possible that the grille and bumper was changed to a 72 and your truck is a 69 or 70. I would check your vin# first. It'll tell you what year it is there. Your frame # will also tell you if the frame matches the cab. The frame # is on the drivers side engine compartment. on top of the frame rail. Is the rear a 6 lug also? If you have 6 lug spindles then you'll have to order drop spindles for a 70. The ball joints and tie rods holes are smaller on 70 and below.

Yep, the rear is 6 lug also. The vin matches the title and frame stamping numbers. Its a 1972 sold in 1971. One bolt on the clip was different than the rest of the clip but was just as dirty as the rest of the frame and all.

Re: What front clip do I have?

Maybe someone with an older truck robbed the discs and 5 lug off of it and put their old stuff under it to sell off the truck..

This is possible. ^
70 and older all had 6 lug with drums, and 71 and 72 were 5 lug with disc in 2wd 1/2 ton trucks

Re: What front clip do I have?

Is it possible that its a late 1971 frame? I guess it doesnt matter. So I need 1970 and under spindles for disc. Then use five lug rotors . It cant be 1972 arms/ ball joints being drums right?

Thanks guys
Mike

Re: What front clip do I have?

In order to know what front end you have, I need to see your rear end! Haha what I mean to say is measure your rear end as they were different lengths for different years. Could give you more insight.

Re: What front clip do I have?

Sounds like a 67-68 frame with 72 sheetmetal. Lots of people swap front ends but if you got the vin from the door plate then that would mean the cab was also replaced.Unless it was a vin switch-a-roo also. I've known many who swap later model running gear on a early model frame but never vise-versa. Good luck.

Re: What front clip do I have?

The frame is 1972 with matching body and title. I guess someone just changed it over a one time. Again, I need 1970 and older spindles and parts?

Can I get 6 lug or 5 lug spindles for this truck?

Re: What front clip do I have?

Yes.
They make 63-70 conversion spindles.

Re: What front clip do I have?

I'm still not convinced. Wish you could post pics of the truck, the suspension and the glovebox SPID.
