please id this rear axle

Just bought a 69 short wide and it has this rear axle. I have no idea what it is. It is a six lug rear axle. Anyone know what this rear axle is?

Thanks for the help.

Re: please id this rear axle

I quess there is a first time for everything but I have never seen a six lug Eaton. All of them I have seen were 8 lug and had bolt in axles at the outside hub. Get a picture of the front of the housing. Also the track bar shouldn't look like that.

Re: please id this rear axle

It could be an older corporate axle. Similar in design to the HO52/HO72 but used in half ton applications. I believe they called it an HO33.

Re: please id this rear axle

I think Blazer1970 is right. I hate passing on second hand info, but have been told that a semi-float 6-lug with small tubes is the HO33 that was used in half-tons.

Re: please id this rear axle

pics of front of axle and one of the truck as found and purchased. I have a long way to go.

I am not seeing any numbers to the right of the carrier, should these be on the right axle tube?

Again thanks for the help.

The code is stamped on the passenger side tube of the rear end housing. The first picture shows the area of the housing where the code is stamped and the second picture is of the code number itself. When You have the code just use the first two or three letters ('67-'69 have two letters & '70-'72 have three) and look it up here in the axle codes section.

http://www.americanclassic.com/paint.htm

It doesn't tell you who made it though.

The letters TDE on this one tells me it is a 307:1 - 1/2 ton assembly

Re: please id this rear axle

Ive never seen one like that in a 67-72 either. But my 1955 1/2 ton truck had one like that. So it must be a older axle like Blazer1970 said.

The mount for the panhard bar is right where your photo shows where the code is located. I looked again and do not see a code stamped in this area.

I am at a loss here....

Re: please id this rear axle

Id say it is what evryone says, the ho33. But I bet it came out of a 60-62? 1/2 ton. They had the same suspension as ours so it is possible to use the axle out of one. I believe 62 was the last year, please correct me if I am wrong. I think also a 67-72 with a ho52 that has coils might be able to supply you with a new panhard bar since yours is messed up. Hope this helps.

Re: please id this rear axle

it strongly resembles the axle that was under a 61 1/2 ton apache short step I used to have.
