I got asked to finish another AD this winter for someone else. This one was started and had been sitting for 4 years. It is on a s10 frame and has a 400hp GM crate motor installed with a partly installed T5 trans. Most of the rust repair was already done. They want to turn the key mid March and drive mid April when the salt on the roads is gone.

This is how it came to my house I had to use the rims off my truck because it didn't have any yet. Then I took the cab to get sand blasted and got it in primer. Then made up some rear mounts to get the cab sitting on the frame, front mounts where done. That is where we are now. The 5 window cab is chopped 1.5" and there will be some cool unique mods done along the way.

1) it's chopped and that's bad a$s
2) why would someone only chop 1.5"!?!?! that's so much work for a mild change

Actually, I think these slight chops look the best (especially on AD's). Most people chop too much then don't lower the truck enough and it destroys the lines. It tends to have the profile of a 2x4. The juice is worth the squeeze if the end result looks good.

The best custom mods are those subtle ones that you need to really look at. They are not so radical that the vehicle no longer resembles its stock form.

My 2 cents anyway......

I always thought AD trucks look funny with to much chop. But yes lots of work

I agree on the chop, more than 2 inches and things start looking weird to me. I like the less obvious approach.

So I removed the seat riser, picked up a rear seat from an Avalanche, if the truck was not chopped it could just be bolted in. The owner wanted a bench seat with cup holders in the arm rest. I had the owner come and test fit the seating position, had to go forward 1" and down 4". So today I finished modifying and got it set in place, looks great I just have to mount it to the floor now. They are going to be getting it recovered. Also they had a steering column from a Mustang and wanted to see if it would work, Honestly I think it will work better than the GM ones I have used. The steering shaft will be above the headers.

Geez you work quick! Now, about that mustang column: You said it may work even better than the gm columns. What advantages have you found? I ask because its far better looking than the 2nd gen S10 column I have in my build.

The seat looks nice. I like how low it sits. I dislike seeing headrests thru the rear window but it looks like yours are don't stick up very high in relation to the rear window.

Thank you. It's just held in with tie wraps right now but looks good so far, I'll give details when I mount it up.

Agree. I had to shorten it 4" but I will defiantly be using one again in future builds.

So over the weekend I got the front end fit up. I was told the front clip had never been attached to this cab, so I started working on the puzzle. Got it all together sitting how it should and made up some body mounts that are now part of the rad cradle.

Well this week I got the fire wall all finished up I decided to cut out the steering and brake holes as no parts would fit that we had, I welded in a plate to start over. I then seam sealed the fire wall and floor and sprayed paintable undercoating.
I then moved onto the inside and cleaned up anything that needed attention and seam sealed then sprayed on the insulation, this is now the 4th vehicle I have used Lizard skin product in and I love it. Oh and insulated work wear is on sale

any tips n tricks for spraying that stuff that isn't in the generic youtube?

Looks good. I've heard good things about lizard skin and I'm considering using it also. Have you used both the sound deadening and thermal product? If so, any opinions of laying both down together? Also, have you used it in the fender wells?

Make sure you mask off what you don't want it on, it splatters. There is also a decent amount of air born stuff floating around, like over spray.

Yes I have used both products in my orange truck and love it, I get a thud when I smack the roof, 1 gal of each. put down like they say to. Then I used used just the CI in the black truck, great for temp but not much sound in the one application. This truck I was told to double up on the CI to help with the sound (could not get sound in time) it is better but not a thud. No I use rubberized rocker guard in the fenders.
