Kick Down Problems

First off the trans is a turbo 400 and i know its an electric kick down.
I have no idea where to start troubleshooting with it??
any suggestions would be great? Thanks

The kickdown in the TH 400 should be easy to checkout . I assume that the transmission is in the truck pictured in your avitar so the kickdown switch will be mounted on the carb. Before starting to check out the electrical, make sure the kickdown switch is depressed with the throttle wide open, (engine off).

The switch will have two wires in it, one is power with the ignition switch on so check for power to the kickdown switch first.

If you have power to the kickdown switch check the other terminal with the kickdown switch depressed, ignition switch on and the engine not running. If you have power going through the switch make sure that the wire going down to the detent switch on the transmission is good and that power is going to the detent switch with the kickdown switch depressed, (engine off, ignition on).

If power is reaching the detent switch on the transmission, then the detent switch must be bad and needs to be replaced.

If there is no power from the ignition switch then the wiring will have to be checked. The power wire to the kickdown switch is plugged into the "Ignition Unfused" terminal of the fuse panel so start there.

is the detent switch on the transmission easily replaced, or do i have to drop the pan and go from their?

The detent switch is easy to change as it screws in like a temperature sending unit.
