up control arm shaft crossmember bolt

one thing after another it seems... when i removed the nuts holding the up control shaft in place, the threads were damaged. Is that bolt removable? some drawings from lmc catalog appear that it's pressed in or something? #8 in the image...

Re: up control arm shaft crossmember bolt

its like replacing the studs on your axle or hub, hit it with a big hammer to get it out. then use a nut and washers to pull the new one in.

Thanks everyone. This board is great. Although I've worked on vehicles my whole life, this forum gives me the support to try stuff I never have and share what I do know.

Re: up control arm shaft crossmember bolt

I bought the LMC bolts. Check out my post a few days ago. I'm now looking for another crossmember.

Re: up control arm shaft crossmember bolt

what happened cobrajet21? Did LMC send an incorrect bolt that caused a problem such that it ruined the opening for the correct bolt? I imagine that if you put in a too large bolt, that would make it very difficult for the correct one, if it was a smaller diameter... that sux. i havent been all that satisfied with my limited purchases from lmc, but that would turn me off them for good.

Re: up control arm shaft crossmember bolt

the bolt in the pic is what they said was the replacement. the threads are the same the length is the same but the spline area is larger than the stock bolt and very hard to press in. it makes the hole too large for a stock bolt to go back into. some people on here were concerned that the smaller head on the lmc bolt might pull through after awhile and that got me nervous so i am going to get another crossmember and buy the correct bolts from performance online. it might not be a problem but i don't know.
