Are cabs worth anything w/o title?

I am getting a 1970 cab with another truck I am buying. The cab has no title, glass, doors, etc. Is it worth anything besides scrap?

Any cab I have bought has come with no VIN-plate or title. Heck yes they're worth something.

Dependent on if the cab has rust issue that need to be fixed. Price varies given those issues.

In Alabama you don't need a title on any vehicle before 1976 just a bill of sale. It probably needs a vin tag though.

Re: Are cabs worth anything w/o title?

Even in states that refuse to work with a regular resident who has those problems, having a buddy in a dealership can help get a replacement VIN# assigned and a new title. The old VIN# is preferred for research into theft issues of course, but in the case of a "newly constructed and/or rebuilt" vehicle they commonly will scratch or attach a new VIN# to the frame, driver's door, and at least one other location so you can title it IF YOU HAVE RECEIPTS for all your parts (the Bill of Sale for the cab, of course).

Even if you look at the cab as just parts, many people would be interested in a good roof or something they can use to build a club cab/crew cab custom; or if it's an a/c cab or has a good uncut dash panel or...

Re: Are cabs worth anything w/o title?

A VIN-tag with no title is worthless to me.I'm sure there are ways to get a title somewhere and transfer to my state, but you still don't have the matching frame. I'd only go through all that to end up with "everything" matching to be totally legit. It's a lot of trouble compared to a few rivets. I'm not worried about DMV looking past the VIN-plate,so when I swap a cab I swap my VIN-tag onto the new cab. I could care less about a VIN-plate & title when I buy a cab, unless it's the start of a whole new truck. I care about the condition of the cab.
At the other end of the spectrum, when you buy a total P.O.S. truck for it's factory configuration (SWB BBC Cheyenne Super,SWB K/10,etc) the frame,VIN-plate,glovebox door w/SPID,and title are the entire value of that vehicle. I bought a '71 SWB K/10 and that was all I cared about. There wasn't a piece of sheet metal on that truck that was staying. I ended up having to abandon that project and when I put it up for sale it took someone savvy enough to appreciate it's value. It was priced accordingly ($1,500) and I got dozens of responses by people asking about rust in the body,if it ran, etc. I'd answer it's totally rusted and had no idea if it would run and never cared. I guess they were hoping to buy a decent truck for $1,500 that had a potential value of 15x that or more. Finally,a very smart feller with a huge collection came with a rollback to haul it away after without offering a penny less after he earned: Frame is good, has VIN-plate,title,and glovebox door. He will build that into A $25,000 truck

Re: Are cabs worth anything w/o title?

Its a tough thing, i have a cab with title, GBD and frame i'm holding. Its a LWB which i'm not interested in building.

I also have a super cab, no title, no frame.

Have a nice frame, no cab, no tltle, no gbd.

Lots of crap i have to piece together. I did get receipts for all these, thats about the only good thing. But i'll never be able to sell it as a matching numbers truck.

I want to point out that VIN plates use a special revit. It's called a rosette reivet. The head of the rivet has a flower shape. I'm not sure but I don't think you can legally purchase the rivets. With that said, A lot of people have used the standard rivets without issues.

For $65 a pair you can make a whole lot of them with a file that would be so close no one would even be the wiser lol. I don't think in most instances there would be much of an issue unless you gave the DMV or police dept a reason to be suspecious. I've mounted a pick up cab on a blazer frame and there were a bunch of other weird things that I had done to the truck, I don't remember all the specifices now. It was back in '89 or '91 when I was doin a lot of woods runnin. Well I got pulled over for a light out by a local trooper and when he ran the plates things didn't quite add up lol. So after 20 minutes of walk around of what all I did including the id tags frame and cab and all, and by then he got the rest of the info from the DMV he understood what was going on. He didn't have any problems with it. He thought it was kinda funny, the DMV was confused lol.
