Rearend swap

Ok so i have been thinking when i do the front disc brake swap i think i may just stay with the 5 lug pattern. My 64 gmc has the factory rearend in it now. It's a dana 44 on leafsprings with 3:54 gears. Im running a 350/350 combo and at 65 mph the engine is turning around 2800 rpm. I would like to lower my rpms and maybe in the prosses gain a few mpgs. So my quetion is which rear ends will bolt in and i can run a set of ralley wheels for now? Is the 70-72 one or can i put a 73-87? A friend of mine has a rearend out oa a 73-87 suburban he thinks has around 2:70s in it.
