'75 Chevy C-10 LWB

This would be my first TRUCK. (I'm 16...)
$2100, well worth the price right?

• second owner since 80 something.
• Was on non-op for 5 years.
• SB 350, new when stored with 5000 miles. new fuelpump, ect.(after storage) runs great
• turbo 400 trans, trans cooler, new gaskets [dried out in storage...]
• tow hitch w/ brake controller. [i dont need to tow anything...]
• reupholstered 15 years ago.
• camper :/
• has original tailgate
• total of 8 holes drilled in top of sides of bed [easy fix right?]
• mostly original except for the brand new goodwrench SB 350

Sounds like a killer deal on a nice looking truck. Is she a 3/4 ton? Tell us more or post a shot of the glovebox sticker.

It is a half ton, thats about all the info i have on it now, I've been talking to the owner for bout a week now, any more questions I should ask? Oh it is a 1/2 ton. I was thinking of doing a short bed conversion, but the more I look at it, the more I like it as a long bed

yeah -- i hear ya. Sometimes you just drive one for a while and the truck seems to tell you, "I'm a long bed, leave me alone and buy another shortbed later!" I like the 2-tone ones as longbeds, and the solid ones as shorties myself

If you're 16, this truck will teach you a lot of lessons on working on old trucks i'm sure, but its fun.

That looks like a very nice truck for $2100 too. If i was your age, i would enjoy that for a couple of years, and if you are still into classic trucks and want a shortie, save the cash a little at a time -- even if you pay 8 or 10,000 for a really nice one, thats less than half what a new truck starts at

why cant i ever find trucks like this in that price range?

I feel lucky to find this one, its in great condition [IT LOOKS NEW!!!], only I wish it had engine problems, so it would be even cheaper.[I intern at an automotive machine shop]
I have found a shortbed stepside, that is a shell with a little rust, no cancer, for 500. The guys at the shop want me to buy that one, but I need something to drive. I wish I had a car already, so I could build the shorty the way I want. Too bad though.
I think I may buy this truck either today, or the begining of next week. I'll keep you posted.

Sounds like a killer deal. I would get it and try to sell the camper to recoup some cost. Would make a great daily driver as longbeds ride alot smoother than short beds.

So I got some more information

It is a heavy half ton.

It has the Silverado trim level.

Was originally a 454. New 350 goodwrench, runs perfect

Rust in the front fenders in the wheel well, not yet all the way through, but looks deep.

Dents in the back on the ends of the sides of the tailgate. (one is kinda big, both sides)

Well thats about it. What do you think it should cost me to fix these little things?

Some others may correct me, but i thought a havy half was like a Big 10 package, with an extra leaf in the springs and larger brakes.

When you say rust in the front fenders, do you mean inside the wheel well, or on the exterior painted surface directly above the well
both spots are pretty common areas to rust on these trucks, but not necessarily "deal breakers" at that price

Tailgate could have gotten banged around in storage, hard to say without pics

If the grill is falling apart , thats a $50 fix if its just the center

and your right, it seems everyone tortures their doors at some point or another with speakers.

For a 32 year old unmolested truck, those sound like pretty typical issues. $2100 is still a very good price for that truck -- bodywork and rust repair are among the most expensive things to do an old vehicle, and that one doesnt sound bad

its within the ball park id say for $2100 id start at like $1500 and work up as long as they can document everything...

its rusted right in the front corner of the outer fender on both sides, not yet all the way through, but looks close.

the tailgate is in great condition no dents.

the only thing i am worried about is the dents in the back of the bed sides (above the brake lights) One of them is kinda deep. (someone backed into the truck...)

and i just figured out that it has two gas tanks, but one of them isnt original. small hole is drilled in the other side, i could weld a panel in place for that, no big problem.

The last question I would like to know is, well the rear end is a 12 bolt, but how would i tell what gears they are, or if it is a posi or not?

I think i am going to buy it, since there isnt a whole lot of work it needs, and it would be a "learning experience" for when i am making more money, and hopefully purchase a SWB.

I forgot to mention that since it has new, im guessing bigger tires on it, the thing on the transmission that controls the spedometer, and odometer broke.(dont know what its called) is that an easy fix? do i just find one at the junkyard?

a 75 is a gear driven tranny if original you pop off the cable at the trans and it should pop out and put in a different one if its the cable thats pretty easy too if its anything else i dont know how to fix it

Well, i think once i pick up this truck, i may take it to this guy at my church that owns a transmission shop, so hopefully he can help me out with it.

There is a large dent in the top corner of the passenger bed side. right where the tail gate would go. will the dent be a problem? if it is, i dont think i will bother fixing it, i think later (after a few years, if not sold) i am going to transfer it to a shortbed frame. but for now, its my DD work horse. with a 7.4:1 compression ratio ( i could run it on propane if i wanted to )

NEW UPDATE!

So today, we went ovet to talk business about the truck. The original price on the add was 2100, so i said, why not just throw out a price. I said 1600, and the guy hesitated for a second then said "sure." I guess he wanted to sell it, because if it came to it, i would have bought it for 2100, maybe even more, but that was it. Im so excited my first truck! i get to pick it up either this friday or saturday. i cant wait!
I guess the first thing i will do, is tear it appart. (its what i do with everything xD) nah. its to nice to do that. im going to hit the junk yards, and pick n pull to see what i can find.

Congratulations --- that looked like a sweet buy at $2100, but even better at $1600 ! Thats $500 to put toward some sweet custom wheels if you want (or just pocket it- thats 7 or 8 tanks of gas!)

Get some tunes, fix the little stuff as it comes up, and cruise it till the tires fall off!

Congrats on the purchase. Dont you just hate that when you give your lower than asking price offer expecting to do some dealing and they take the first offer? I always walk away knowing I got a good deal but still think "I should have started lower!".
