column shifter linkage problems

Im trying to hook up my shifter linkage rod from the tranny to my column. Im still using a small block in the same location with the same transmission, and it seems like the throttle linkage rod is a few inches too short. Did these rods come in different lengths? What might be the problem?

Did you remove the steering column? If you did, perhaps it justs needs to be turned a bit clockwise?

Re: column shifter linkage problems

Ok, I have both in park. I have my column lined up correctly b/c the shift indicator thing is right in the middle. I still come up about 3 or 4 inches short. Does anyone have a pic handy to compare to? My v8 is in the v6 position, but it was in this position before I tore it apart and it fit right. If nothing else, can I just weld an extension on the linkage rod?
