sry but it a ford qeustion

A buddy of mine has a 79 mustang that he was going to build into a street/strip car and we were trying to figure out how much it weighs. Right nowit doesnt have a engine in it so we cant take it to the scale. This car had a staight six with ac and a power rack, the title says 2300 but that seem's kinda light to me. Does anyone know how much they weighed stock with the small block in them?

Re: sry but it a ford qeustion

Well, my 1986 GT mustang weighs 2840 lbs with me in it (I weigh 180 lbs so the car itself would be 2660 lbs). The car has power windows, locks, cruise control - let's just say that it's a well optioned car. The earlier cars usually didn't have two many features built in and did not have quite as many structural reinforcements as the newer ones.

All that being said, I would guess that the car probably did weigh around 2300-2400 lbs stock. There is a reason that these cars were considered fast for there day ( the 5.0's at least ) - they were much lighter than the competition of the day.

Re: sry but it a ford qeustion

The early fox body mustangs from 1979 to 1982 offered multiple engine choices with the 200 cid inline six being one of them. This engine was dropped in 1983 in favor of the 3.8 liter V6. One word of advice on the inline six cars - they use a different cross member that the 2.3 liter 4 cyl, 3.8 liter V6, and 4.2/5.0 liter V8 cars.

This odd ball cross member will not allow the direct install of a V8 - you can swap out the cross member from any of the above mentioned cars or try to modify the existing one. Personally, I would swap out the cross member as it's only held in place by a dozen or so bolts.

Off topic , but i had a 82 F-100 with the little known 4.2 / 255 V8 . It went 304,018 before bearing wear caused replacment . It was a really good motor . Sorry to stray .
