Cool trailer hauling

Hay !

Was a long time not on the board and no excusses.
I am living in The Netherlands and having a problem with permission for trailer hauling with my '72 3door suburban .
350 small block and 400 THM .
The autorities give me permission for hauling a trailer max. 350 lbs. gross weight, because I can not hand over a official message from the manufactorer in which the maximum trailer-weights are given.
Is there anybody who can mail me a copy of a document of that kind?

Thank you all ( and I will visit the board more frequently in the futur... promess..!

Jan

Long time no see, you oughta come around more often. You have no idea on the crazynes you are missing out on!
As for your 350 pound towing problem, have you showed them the data plate in the door jamb? That is an official GM plate that (if unmodified) should tell your autorities everything they need to know. You might have to convert it all over to metric for them to make it easier though. I've found that is someone doesn't really want to do something, they wont work very hard to let you do it.
As far as documentation...an owners manual is about the only thing I can think of. Byt that is pretty weak.
I wonder if G.M. could help you. They're probably too busy to help a person though.

If you have any kind of dealership over there that sells GM products, I would bring a copy of the owners manual and create a letter to the appropriate authorities that you can try and get the dealer to sign---making it easy on them not having to do anything---then just bug the crap out of them till they sign it as an authroized GM representative-never know, might work.

Unhappy Towing

Longhornmail,
That plate in the doorjamb, doesn't that only give info on loadingweight?

I have the same problem as Dutchburb, but I'm allowed to tow a maximum of 1600lbs. I have tried to get in touch about this with the dealer but they want $300 for it, and can't even give me the guarantee it will help.... So that's not really an option.

Your right. I don't know what I was thinking.
I agree...$300 with no gurantee is not an option.
I'll see if I can't get some info and get the 2 of you an address to write too. I have a guy at a local GM dealer who helps me out sometimes.
Sorry for the misguided infoDutchburb.

Want to thank Longhornmail and Edmond for their reactions.
I wrote that the maximun load for a trailer 350 LBS was,but I did a wrong calculation . It's 750 Kilograms and that is about 1600lbs. just the same as Edmond. Sorry for that.
Longhornmail, it would be nice if you could figur something out on this problem.
Jan..

The dealer wants $300 for "information"!!!!! I would have a real problem with that and would be contacting someone at GM about that. That is a crock of crap!

Well you are right about that! It is indeed a load of crap, but there is not much I can do about it. I always thought that this kind of information was fairly easy to get...
But they are the official dealer for GM, and there is no other place I can go to.
I have filed the letter were they are asking $300, perhaps it may come in handy at a later date. :p

Someday both Dutchburb and me will have it on our registration papers...

Cya,
Edmond

PS
I thought you did made a mis-calculation Jan...
