Question LED Turn and Tail

Anyone running em ? Thoughts ? Curious if the front LED have both running and signal lighting (much like the rear). I know I'll have to swap out to an LED friendly flasher relay also . Pictures illuminated would be muey bueno

Re: LED Turn and Tail

I've got the rears with the socket built in them. They work fine in conjuction with regular bulbs up front. As long as the lights (LED or bulb) can put enough load on the system, they'll blink. Most of the new setups have the socket and resistor included, but if your retrofitting them yourself, you'll need to add resistors.

Re: LED Turn and Tail

Was planning on hard wiring and making my own quick removeable pigtails and was going to shrink tube in a 10k resistor ( I think what I used ) when I did LED tails on my old motorcycles. I want to get away from relying on the unreliable 1157 socket itself

Re: LED Turn and Tail

I really want to make sure that the fronts can serve as "running lights and signal" along with what the LED looks like when just the running lights are on

Re: LED Turn and Tail

Yes!
I have LED lights up front and in the back. They function as running lights (dimmer setting) and then turn signals which are brighter. However, it is really easy to put the plug in the wrong direction and make it so that it's the opposite.
I ended up hardwiring in my lights to bypass the socket that I was having issues with, but I also went ahead and changed out the flasher with one made for LED's. It's also a little bit louder when it ticks which is kind of nice!

Running Lights up front

Re: LED Turn and Tail

Cooper, is installing the l.e.d flasher simply a matter of unplugging the stock flasher and plugging in the new? Can one be bought at the parts store.?

Basically.
I got mine from Napa for less than 10 bucks. There were two very minor changes from the original one.
1) The LED one required a ground
2)The pins were switched. So maybe they gave me the wrong one, but I just made two little jumper wires and put the two pins in the right place that way and it all works great!

Re: LED Turn and Tail

I my opinion, you may have missed a very cool option...
Now that you have the LED flashers into place, you are all rigged for what I have done, which is a very modern approach.
I have fitted my truck with the clear bezels in the front, but I am running what they call a "switchback" LED lamp.
When the parking lamps are on, they illuminate white. when the turn signal is activated the white drops out & illuminates an amber blink. as soon as the turn signal is canceled, they return to white light for the parking lights, all while the opposite side never misses a beat, and reamains white the entire time, very cool, I think anyways.
My entire truck is fitted with either LED or HID on the exterior.
Check out ddmtuning.com they specialize in automotive lighting, it may cost a few bucks more, but they are LED's they shouldn't ever burn out...

Re: LED Turn and Tail

my leds
I have parking lights , Turn signal and brake lights are brighter ,I have turn signals in front with headlights on but no "running lights" light switch has parking lights half pull, headlights full pull, started with rear lights led and front lights regular, worked fine with stock flasher ,added front leds and would not blink, changed flasher to led type with ground and mine came with a adapter that changed polarity ? and it worked!

Sorry to hear about your truck, always sucks when an old vehicle gets hit.
BTW, I sell United Pacific LEDS and Flashers, very nice products.

Not lighting up, or not blinking? As some have mentioned, LED's don't put the same impedance on the circuit, so they won't trigger the blinker without adding a bulb or resistor (the pre-socketed lights sometimes do have a resistor added, but each is different).

Check the ground.
Had issues with my rear lights working until I cut the ground wire off the plug and grounded it.

Ultimately ended up just doing away with the plug completely and directly wiring all my lights in.

Re: LED Turn and Tail

Instead of wiring for a whole new setup, I just used some "For Off-road Use Only" LED bulbs that I found at Autozone that fit in the stock taillight sockets. I put them in at the same time that I added the third brake light.
