49 Inner Fender Attachment?
I'm working on the drivers inner fender of my 49, 3100 (s10 swap).
I think I may be missing a bracket, or maybe I'm just out of alignment. When I purchased my truck it had already been partially disassembled, and when I worked on the firewall, I filled a lot of holes. Now I can't tell if I need to pull the edge of the inner fender back to the fire wall, drill holes, and bolt it up. Or if I need to fabricate a bracket (or find a donor). It isn't something that LMC lists as a part. If any of you have pictures of your inner fender on this side, that would be mucho helpful. I know someone on the site posted a similar question, but about a 54 I believe. I'm not sure if they're the same. Pictures below show what I'm dealing with. I've got about a 3/4" gap between the inner fender and the fire wall. |

I don't know why this isn't letting me attach multiple photos.

Re: 49 Inner Fender Attachment?
Thank you gentlemen.
So if you were dumb like me, and had more time than brains (combined with the fact that I'm using the s10 brake setup, rather than the '49), do you think you could fab one up? Could one of you guys measure the dept of that bracket...or how far the inner fender lip is from the firewall? Since I filled the holes on the firewall, I'm going to end up doing some custom work anyway. Or, if you guys see a reason why you could just fab one, let me no. It looks pretty straight forward from the picture. |

Re: 49 Inner Fender Attachment?
You might be able to fab one. You do not need some of the holes as they are for the original emergency brake mounting hardware which I assume you will not be using. The inner fender mounting holes do step at different widths from the firewall. I would have a used one for $35 if needed . Depends what you time is worth. Up the hill from you in Nebrasksa so shipping would be inexpensive. Thanks

Re: 49 Inner Fender Attachment?
If you had a foot pedal for the emergency brake then you need that bracket. If you had a floor shift and a hand brake next to the shift then you do not use a bracket and the fender bolts directly to the cab. Early AD's with floor hand brake had a longer inner fender on the left side, 47 and some 48

Re: 49 Inner Fender Attachment?
I would buy one, I use a transmount handbrake, but don't want to have problems with alignment off the front sheet metal.

Re: 49 Inner Fender Attachment?
Looking over my cabs it looks like the big trucks did not use that bracket while the small trucks did. Small being 1 ton and smaller with the smooth bumper rather than the 4000 and up series with the ribbed bumper.
