What engine swap did you do? Is this a LSx swap?

Re: the g-body headers fit!!!!!

i dont have a direct link. they are sold on jegs or summit. the ones i used are Flowtech afterburners that i had laying around off my 1980 malibu. they fit 1978-87 g-bodys and fit snug on my 86 sierra. if you have them laying around it will save you a few hundred bucks, otherwise just use the correct ones for your truck. i figured, i have em ill try em and they fit. ill have pics soon. they hang directly beside the frame, not under at all. you cant even see them unless ou lay down and look, id suggest them for a slammed truck for the ground clearance. you could actually run the exhaust within the frame.

Re: the g-body headers fit!!!!!

i swapped them onto a 1977 sbc. they clear the starter, frame, no clearance issues at all. and theyd be perfect for your lowered truck 1972super. i asked on here if anyone tried it, didnt get a response so figured no one did, and gave it a shot. worked in my favor, pass the word

Awesome! Thanks for posting that. I was just about to ask if anyone had tried it. I have the same headers off of my 81 camaro hanging on the wall. Guess I'll clean them up and use them.

Too bad the ceramic coated headers on my Malibu are in use

If the collectors are tucked up high in the frame rail area they should fit a 4x4. Standard 2wd truck headers run into clearance problems at the point the collectors cross over the front driveshaft and where they pass the leaf spring mount. I had to modify the ones from my 67 C-10 in these areas to make them fit the 78 K20.

Are these the ones?

Do you have any installed pics? And why is one side longer than the other?

Those are kind of odd looking. Look for a set designed to fit the 67-69 Camaro. When I was looking for headers for my Malibu I had a hard time finding them for a realistic price even though the first gen Camaro parts fit with minor massaging.

Try these instead http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G9001/
I had them on mine prior to getting the Pacesetter ceramic coated ones I have on there now. At nearly half the cost it is not a crime to have to modify a few tubes on them to make them fit if needed.

Re: the g-body headers fit!!!!!

i dont know why one side is longer than the other. thats the way the were built for the g-body. the only clearance issue i ended up having was the tranny crossmember. my truck came single exhaust so the side that didnt have exhaust got in the way. i took a GForce crossmember that i also had left over from my malibu, cut the crossmemeber to fit. i dont have pics, i will take some and post them this evening.

The A body and G body are almost twins so if one works they both will.

Not to be mean but your statement is not true. The G-body is quite a bit smaller in the engine compartment than an A-body. The entire car is far smaller too. I have owned many of both platform and have tried to use A-body headers on a G-body.

Headers designed for G-bodies are tighter to the engine and slightly different than the typical universal fit headers designed around the 2nd gen Camaro & 65-72 A-body Chevelle. The tube placement can be much looser on an A-body header and still work where it has to be very precise to fit a G-body.

Big block A-body headers take a boat load of mods to make them fit a G-body.

Most universal fit small block headers based around fitting a Camaro & early Chevelle also hit the upper A-arm mount boss on the G-body so they require some trimming of the boss and denting the tube so the suspension can move.

A G-body header may fit but that doesn't mean all A-body headers will too.

Re: the g-body headers fit!!!!!

These headers should work. Without a doubt. They are cleared for the front suspension and dont hit the cross member for the front end. You say there bigger? Well thats good. G bodys fit, why not a bigger header similar to that, and more snug around the block. Besides these are long tubes, alot a guys on the hotrod forum told my buddy theyd hit the cab, but when i seen this, i laughed cause malibus are smaller, and there headers work exceptionally well on these trucks..

Technically the 78-80 montes and malibus where considered A bodies..

Re: the g-body headers fit!!!!!

I know that mid 70's Camaro headers won't work on a 4x4. They run right down into the front driveshaft.

Are you sure about that? Post 77's were g-bodys & pre-78's were a-bodies from what I've always read in text info.

Re: the g-body headers fit!!!!!

I have no proof of it, but I would venture to guess just about any small block Chevy header could work in a 2wd square. You've got to admit, they do offer a BUNCH of room along the sides of the engine to fit a header.

Typically, most A or G body headers will work w/minor trimming. 2nd gen f-body headers will as well. I have them in my CC BBC propelled square body dually (1 3/4 x 3" full length).
