Engine squeals, and smokes!

Every once in awhile when I haven't started my truck in a long time, (say a month) the engine will squeal and smoke will appear under the hood. 87 5.7 tbi. Is it possible this is a belt? I hope so. What would cause an old engine to squeal and smoke? It generally won't do it if its been started recently.

Re: Engine squeals, and smokes!

First guess would be alternator freezing up when it sits, causing belt slippage.

I'm assuming you did look for a loose belt first?

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.
