1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

Seen this today.

1980 with 30,000 miles. 2 owner truck. 2wd.

Beds looks like nothing has ever been in it.

aluminum heads, rusty headers, etc.

No rust

Whats it worth? They are asking $9,000.

Not a 30K truck, the odometer only goes 5 numbers across, I would say it's a 130K OR 230k truck, good looking, but I think 4/5 thousand would be a better price

Very good looking... But agree. Ask em 5 n see what happens. Get mad? Buy their neighbors they're so common its unreal. I took a highway because interstate was clogged. About 4 or 5 neighbors had a variation of a square body lol. It was awesome.

Brake pedal is showing quite a bit of wear for 30k... Then again, alum heads, headers, pie plate tach. It's a lot of quarter mile runs for 30k to rack up.

Look up NADA book value for your area, may give you an idea of what's comparable.

I feel it could be original miles. Cab mounts don't seem crushed at all and the underside is pretty clean. It looks like the frame has most of it's original paint. I think the brake pedal is more dirty than worn but this is just my opinion.

I had observed the mounts as well. The slow propagation of rust underneath starting at the stamped holes...might be original. Paint separating on the top of the fenders, that sounds like GM paint...probably stored in a garage quite a while.

I see the jack, handles, and hold-downs are all missing, also indicative of some racing. Looks like it has been lightened up and that it might be pretty original but in a raced state.

It was stored outside for most of its life is what I was told. I'm not sure how to prove the mileage.

I really not sure on what is a fair price. On eBay and web the prices vary to much.

There may be a lot of these trucks out there. But there is not many around where I live. I take every back road possible looking for something.

Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

Black is one of my favorite colors on these. If I was in the market for one I would strongly consider this one. I have always had a thing for factory black trucks since my dad still has the 72 black swb Cheyenne Super I grew up riding in. To me a black truck is worth more than say a green truck but that is just me.

He'll probably say it was "never raced"! Love the HUGE TACH on the dash. If it does have 30,000 on it, it's been ridden hard................ I would not buy it

Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

I would think 6K would be a little more reasonable. It is a nice truck, but the way the paint is degrading, it almost looks like it may have been repainted with a base/clear somewhere along the line. It is a clean enough truck, but I am not a fan of some of the mods. Putting a tach on that nice dashpad just sucks.

There are cleaner trucks out there that sell for less, that are still as GM made them. Its a nice truck, but as others have stated, worth half of the 9k they are asking. Either way, would be a fun toy

Not to low ball the owner but 6K would be the most I'd pay, cash money.

Nice truck...swb in black with sport mirrors and bumpers..and box rails

If it is as good as it looks in the pictures it is worth the 9000.00

Restoration costs are high these days...and only going up

Good short bed units are only going up in value now

I kinda believe the 30k miles look at the shine on the paint on the firewall. But the upgrades like the heads intake carb make it go down in price to me.Go fast goodies just scream its been drove hard lately.

Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

One thing I have learned from shopping for cars is this: Low mileage vehicles are OBVIOUS to spot.
High wear items should give it away. The seat will be PERFECT at 30k miles.
The Brake pedal will be like new.

Also ask them to show some records that indicate the mileage is legit.

Even so, no one would pay more than 6K for a nearly perfect truck, so if you're going to pay that much, shop around.

Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

The truck had been setting outside for several years. So the dash pad is cracked, and the paint is fadeing just across the top of fenders.

The owner is replacing the dashpad and removing the tach.

The seats looked brand new to me. Most everything pointed to possible 30,000 miles, just faded from setting outside.

I was told the motor work was more recently done. I wish it was left original, but its not.

Around in my area there are very few squarebodies that are in this nice of shape. Most of them are rusted out farm trucks.

To me the wheels have to go, and the truck needs to be a bit lower.

The worst part is that this is now at a car dealer and not at the original owners house. So I am not sure how much negation room there is.

By the looks of those rusty headers, the dirty intake & carb, nasty air filter, even the distributor cap is nasty I'd be leary of that statement too.

It could still be a very cool truck.

I meant to say I don't think it was a drag raced truck all its life. He could have used rusty headers to begin with...IDK. Not everybody can afford "New and Shiney".

It is also a K&N filter. Not a dirty one.

Sounds like you kind of have your hear set on buying it. If you know the guy ask what the dealer gave him, which I'm sure was no 9k and I understand mark up so whatever the dealer gave him plus 1k. Shop around though and if you don't mind driving look a little further south? I know of a lot better trucks going for less.

I don't know the original owner, or I would have bought it from him.

Where are these trucks at? I cant find them.

Also, I have to consider time/travel/and possible shipping expense when I buy something out of my area.

Re: 1980 swb w/ 30,000 miles Whats it Worth?

Every used truck is unique and when you are looking at 30 year old factory black short boxes that are rust free your selection is VERY limited.

If you like the truck...just buy it.

You can look all over the country but I doubt you will find a better value.

And that truck on Ebay would make between 7500.00 and 10,000.00

If you are not going to buy it let the other forum members know where it is

Somebody will grab it....

^^^^^ Your best friend if you don't like the 3 I posted. All 3 of the ones I posted are within 200mi of you add time an gas still less than what that other truck was. patience Is a good thing when looking for these trucks. Also I cant quite tell if you're getting upset because the few that said that truck was to much or look around but if you already have your mind made up don't get upset when you ask what people think and it don't agree with what you want to hear. Not trying to be rude just trying to help, happy hunting.
