Engine stand thread

What are you BB guys using? The 3 leg HF stands and the like are spooky !
I've had big blocks on good stands and cheap stands, with the cheap ones always makes you wonder when(and if)they'll stop flexing.
I have a decent one and a cheap one. Want to build up the cheapo
Found a couple of pictures of HD stands. 1st one is probably more than I'll ever need. Second one is more of a test stand but interesting.

Have a reinforced cheapo or a good HD unit ? post a pic.

Re: Engine stand thread

I have my BB on a four legged HF stand....it still bends. I use a jackstand underneath the front of the oil pan to help it from bending too much.

I hear ya, I've done that also. The supports on the second pic I posted would be easy to add to a stand. It would have to be easy on/off so it not in the way when rotating.
Here's another stand I found on TGJ.

Re: Engine stand thread

I don't have any pics but imagine a regular looking three legged stand, but its made out of 3" square tubing. It also sets the motor up higher so you don't have to be leaning over. thats the one i use more than most while building a motor. The cheaper ones seemed to have gotten shorter over the years I've noticed.
Now, If I'm storing one I'll use a cheaper one but block up the front like mentioned. I had a 360 dodge on one from advance Auto. it had it sagging pretty good. so I swapped it over to my older 3" tubed one.

Re: Engine stand thread

My spare Buick 455 is setting on a tire because I don't trust my stand. I kept my cherry picker hooked to the one when I was near it. It weighs less than a chev BB, I thought it would take the lean back to level. It went well beyond that.

Hmmm, I really wouldn't know Don ?

If you look at the first pic closer it's sitting on a carpet remnant.

No stains in my carpet !

Re: Engine stand thread

Have to admire a guy with an engine in the house.

I feel less strange about having had over two rooms devoted to Chevelle and truck parts...

Re: Engine stand thread

I have the summit racing standard engine stand. It's kinda like the yellow one above but has two wheels on the front. Not to bad for a small block, but the big block is pushing it a little I think. My neighbor was pushing his bb on a three legged stand the other day, and it tipped over. No major damage done.
