Unhappy bed repair did i fubar the bed

I don't know if this is where it should be posted here or in paint&body?
any way it dawnd on me that i drilled out the l brackets on the bed that hold
the wood in place because of they rusted a way .. any way the new angles i
bought are stainless steel .. if i weld them in and its bare metal on the back side what can i use to keep it from rustingunder the stainless steel or blistering the body work i have started and need to slick to finish .. I had a freind say blot them in. i thought about it for a min and then i though if i bolt them in how can i hide the boltd from being seen on the out side of the bed . I know the step will hide most but not all .and if i dont mount if in the front and rear of the angle to the bed it could roll. or am i blowing this out of the water ?
The other thing is to just put a metal bed on it >. any one have or had this problem ??? pics of the fix would be helpfull 3
Thanks for your time
sorry if i rambled
Bill

Weld-thru primer. The filler work will probably have to be redone.

How do you propose to weld stainless steel to mild steel?

i think the angles you have are actually covers for the original welded in pieces, so, get some plain steel from Mar k (like $30 pr) weld them in, then use your stainless over them.

stainless steel can be welded to mild steel using stainless wire or an alloy wire made by exergon called 100xl

Re: bed repair did i fubar the bed

Just replaced these on my 50 Chevy, i tack welded them from the outside thru the holes that were left from removing the old ones. Was told after the fact that most guys just clean them up,paint them and then use a nice cover over them. That would have been the easy way but oh well. I tacked them and then did the body work and they look like new, alot of work tho. Good luck.

Re: bed repair did i fubar the bed

use a stud welder to weld a 1/4 threaded stud on the back of the angle strip and bolt thru the bed side.... then it can be removed when needed and no bolts will show....
