Putting the O2 sensor where the pipes merge usually gives the most accurate readings. Sometimes when you do this the sensor is far enough away from the engine that it cools off so a heated sensor is required. GM ran the O2 sensor in one pipe on many, many of their V6 and V8 engines and it worked fine. I did this with my '57. It will work with a TBI truck as well but if you're looking at installing a system with port injection and dual bank fuel trims you will want two sensors.
