Cool Project: 1967 C10 Small Window

I've finally decided to make a build thread. I got this very solid '67 c10 stepside back in early January from 62ls1 (who has been TREMENDOUS help throughout the build) with the plans of doing a full frame off restorod. I'll let you know what's going on as I post pictures.

It came with a factory 4-speed behind a 292 L6. Plans are to rebuild the engine.

Re: Project: 1967 C10 Small Window

We began by taking the bed off with the plans of rebuilding the whole rear section first including the chassis, 12-bolt rear end, suspension, etc.

Re: Project: 1967 C10 Small Window

Once the rear half of the chassis was taken down to bare metal using a grinder with a wire brush and a sandblaster, it was primed and I began to tear apart the rear. At this point the chassis and truck as a whole were looking very solid with only minor pitting on the frame where the bed had been resting.

Well I'm not planning on anything crazy custom and I want to keep that classic look. I'm doing a 4/6 drop, wheels, some engine mods but other than that not much more.....at least I don't think right now

We pulled out the differential and replaced all the seals and bearings as well as just cleaned everything up.

Re: Project: 1967 C10 Small Window

Everything looking great so far. I am interested in this build because this fall I hope to start working on my '67 swb stepper with a 250 and 4 speed.

Re: Project: 1967 C10 Small Window

And at last everything came together. This is pretty much where we are right now except we have the steering linkages in and the PS box as well as a few brake lines.

Re: Project: 1967 C10 Small Window

In order for the PS box to fit, the frame had to be modified which for us involved cutting out the spot and welding in another plate. Also, the radiator bracket had to be trimmed down.

Re: Project: 1967 C10 Small Window

I am thinking about going mostly for a stock look on the '67. It will require a lot of rust repair work to get it to the stock look. I want to use it to cruise the back roads and small towns around here. I really like the 250 with the 4 speed.

I have a '71 with a 454 and 4 speed that will get more of a custom build, but that is in the far future since it is my work truck for now.

I'm subscribed! That frame looks killer. You are right....the TT2's look great on anything. If you want to powder coat some small stuff, give me a call. Oh yeah....it took me a while to read all those options on the SPID!!! : )

Re: Project: 1967 C10 Small Window

Here's all the steering linkages and I forgot to mention I converted the rear to 5-lug using a kit from CPP which included the axles(which I painted with high temp caliper paint), studs, new differential cover gasket, and the 5 lug drums. It was so humid that the camera lens kept fogging up and I'd have to wipe it off. That's why the pics are a little hazy.

Oh yeah...this thing's loaded ...anyways I think it'd be cool to leave the inner glove box door completely untouched.
