Junkyard Score

Got the necessary stuff to do my swap to the 73/74 grille today! All the grilles I found were toast, but the mounting brackets were all there, as well as a couple emblems! What did they charge me? $15.
I've started cleaning up the emblem on the right.

Re: Junkyard Score

Did you get the latch too?, cause you will need it. If your truck has an internal hood release, you'll need the filler panel too.

Soak it in brake fluid, strips off all the paint easily.

I have an external hood release. I didn't see anywhere that I needed to swap the latch assemblies, but I'll go back and get it if necessary.

Re: Junkyard Score

Read Kens retro tech article, it covers it pretty good there. You won't be able to run your external release...get the latch and filler panel to complete the swap.

From reading his article, it seems that if I had an internal release latch I would need to swap some stuff out. The article does not indicate that a 77 external release will not work.

OK, you said you had an EXTERNAL (and I even said that, but was thinking you had an internal), sorry...so go back and get the latch, that will be all you need.

Re: Junkyard Score

Well alright. My grille will be here in 3-7 business days, and I'll go back to the junkyard when it arrives. There were 3 of them lined up for me, so I doubt all 3 latches will be gone by then.
