Using factory mechanical linkage with a holley carb? 1970

I bought my 70 from a body guy, so needless to say the throttle rod is "macguyvered" to the carb linkage... using 2 zip ties. Needless to say, I want to change this out before I get it on the road.

Does anybody have any advice on what I should do? I read about using the 71-72 cable but that this involves some cab surgery. I don't mind reusing the mechanical linkage as long as it makes it work correctly.

I have a 69 and 71. I will one day set the 69 up like the 71 but what I have done for my 69 with a Holley 1850 is I used the stock rod and drilled out the hole in the linkage that a cable linkage would use. The issue then was the rod would hit the fire wall when the throttle was opened and would limit the throttle to 1/2 open. I than cut about a inch out of the rod and welded it back together.

Other options with the rod is cut the end re thread it and rebend it or spend some money and get a universal linkage from some place like summit or Jegs

This sounds like the way I would go as I already have a full set of tap and die tools, problem is I don't know what other parts are needed.

That helps immensely, thank you. It appears my problem is greater than I had anticipated because the end of the rod which connects to the carb linkage has been cut off. (I guess that explains the zip ties!)

Sounds like some threaded rod and heim joints are the answer!

Well, that was a piece of cake - now to figure out how to get a proper throttle return spring mounted in there, and get a proper fuel line, and.... (more "body guy wizardry".)
