My blazer has been sitting for a few years and I have recently pulled it out of hibernation. It had a little under 1/4 tank when parked that went bad. it still started, but smells awful. I let it idle until it ran out of gas and then filled it up.

This thing still stinks like an old junkyard car when it is running. Is this gonna go away after a couple tanks or do I need to have another plan of attack?

Be careful of old gas. My Blazer had 10,000 miles on a rebuild and I had 4 gallons of old gas to 14 gallons of fresh gas it ran ok at first and the next day it missed a bit and by the following day it pushed 5 rocker studs out. I usually will drain and clean the tank and flush fuel lines then rebuild the carb before starting a vehicle that has sat. I am very gun shy now. If you already have it going you can use Seafoam in the gas and oil or just put about 1 quart of ATF in the oil and let the engine idle for awhile this will help lubricate and clean any varnish that may be on valve guides or other internals. After a bit of running dump the oil and filter and add seafoam to the oil and you should be good.

Yeah. Gummed up valve guides can wreak havoc. Don't you just love that Turpentine smell? At this point you have probably removed much of it from the system. For cleaning old gas varnish out of the tank my vote goes to a gallon of Acetone. Run that into a can not the engine, then fill the tank with good gas and drive.
