While I'm in there...?
I am going to be replacing the timing chain on my 1970 350, while I'm in there I would also like to replace the oil pan gasket(or whats left of it)... with the timing cover off is there enough clearance to get the oil pan out, or will I still need to lift the motor?

yes it needs to b lifted up about2-3"///take the dipstick out too when removing pan

i didnt have to lift mine, i was checking rod bearings.
i think i have 6 cyl mounts

Is it a 4x4? I changed the pan on my 4x4 without lifting the engine.
I recommend the Felpro one-piece blue gasket. It rocks!

I've already got the one piece gasket(did my research on this site), and I wish I had the money for a rebuild!!! Until then I'll just keep piece'in it along. It runs really smooth when I can keep it in time! Thanks for the suggestions and wish me luck on my first "major" repair!
