55 - 59 Inner cab corner delete?

Hey guys, Somewhere on here in one of your posts i read about (you?) deleting your inner cab corners? i thought at the time that it sounded like a good idea. Well, im getting ready to do mine and would like any info from you guys that have done this delete. Did it require any other bracing? If i remember correctly you just made your inner floor complete and solid? Thanks for the help guys.

Re: 55 - 59 Inner cab corner delete?

Look at my build thread (link below) post 54. first post is how I built the inner cab corner panel (they were not reproduced then) next one in the interior closure piece. Some guys do not put the lower inner panel back, but I will be using my truck off road and wanted the extra support and to keep the crud off the exterior metal.

Note that I spot welded the inside filler to the exterior skin because I had not started the body work there yet.. you will not want to do that, a good weld to the floor and good sealant will do.

I made templates out of cardboard, cut sheetmetal to match and welded them in (the sheetmetal, not the cardboard). Seam sealed the edges for extra precaution and painted.

I'd like to see more pics of the bottom side. Did you guys delete the inner corner down low? Does it require any support for outer cab corner

I like that idea. It would have to be set up to drain good on the bottom for any moisture that got down there but that would save the mess that always seems to collect in those corners. When my former stepfather had his 54 Chevy 1/2 ton that was where he stuck his extra beer so it was handy but out of sight.

Chuck (Johnny),

Did you end up Dynamatting the entire cab, floor, roof... and all? I ask because I want to do that but Dynamat is so damn expensive I had pretty much decided to go with Peel 'n Seal, or possibly P&S AND the rubberized spray coating I've seen a few guys on here use.

Are you happy with the level of noise (and heat) reduction you've gotten or would you do it differently in hindsight?

Re: 55 - 59 Inner cab corner delete?

I used a product similar to Dynamat that I bought on Ebay and it was much cheaper. Before doing that I seam sealed the crap out of everything and then sprayed the whole inside of the cab (floor and back) with Al's Liner.

Re: 55 - 59 Inner cab corner delete?

Dan,

I did put dynamat everywhere from the base of the windshield across the floor and up the back of the cab, and in the doors. I haven't done the roof yet as I didn't want to damage the original headliner, but I will do it if I ever paint the interior. It did make a huge difference in the sound in the cab and doors, it is now rock solid! It also did a nice job cutting down the heat. I could have probabdly not put it over the entire back wall and gotten the same results.

I'm there are othe products out there that will perform just as well, maybe even at a better price. I think eastwwod has something very similar to the dm.

Thanks,

JJ
