Sway bar need replaced

Hello - would a sway bar ever need replaced? Do these ware down and become less functional? I’m interested in replacing the bushings to make it more functional but didn’t know if the bar itself experienced ware enough to make it (the bar) less effective requiring a full replacement.

1975 Chevy Blazer

Thanks
