Anyone know how to decode a VIN #?

Hey guys I'm new here. I've been reading the boards for a while but I've never posted. You people have been a big help helping me build my 66 stepside small window.

But I cant find any post about how to decode a VIN #. Can someone please tell me what each digit means ?

Re: Anyone know how to decode a VIN #?

You people have been a great help.

Anyone know where I can find out how many 1966 shortbeds where produced/sold? Or even better how many short bed stepsides in 66? Mine was the 4919th off the line in 1966.

I think its so much fun just trying to find out the history of a truck I will never sell it. I've put alot of time and money into this truck and Its part of my family. So I'm just trying to find out as much stuff as possible.
