Gauge sending units?
I have a cummins swap in my truck and would like to use gauges that are closer in range the cummins needs. I have collected a few different range oil press and water temp, do I need the senders for the particular gauge I want to use?
When I had the 60psi oil gauge in it, it would bury the needle. Does that mean that it has the 80 or 100 psi sender on the engine?

The senders have to match the gauges. The senders are a resistance: a particular resistance equals a certain value. The sender and the gauges have to agree on that resistance curve, or the readings are meaningless.

so how do you know what gauge works with what sender? do they have numbers on the gauge or is it guess and pray? I have never seen a listing for more than one oil sender the part number for the one on my pick up with a 60# gauge is the same number as my c70 with a 80# gauge.

I know my oil sender has 414kpa on one of the hex of the nut, my truck came with the 400kpa gauge, I would imagine that the 80/100 psi senders would be the same. As for the temp, my sender doesn't have a number on the side. I'm going back to the yard to grab the senders from the trucks I got the Gauges from, I'll post if there are numbers on those.
I think my senders are bad in my truck.

It's unlikely the Dodge or Cummins senders will have the correct scaled Ohmage over the Temp and Pressure ranges.
You need the senders for your GM truck. I ran a few bench checks on some working gauges for testing. The info is plotted on spreadsheet curves. Open Office 4 and Excel 2010 or later will open it. GM GAUGE_CURVES.xlsx

I'm running the GM senders on the cummins. I'm going to put in new senders, than I'll mess with the different pressures and temps.
