some progress-got lowering spindles on

man, just trying to find the time to work on this truck is killing me! (4) kids, a full time job, side jobs, and a wife, and sick dog...uggggg

anyways, i finally got my 2.5" western chassis drop spindles on the front, so far all i have in the back is the western chassis 5" flip kit (although it looks more like 6" to me)

this is how it sits now...i measured and ordered some 2.5" lowering springs for the front so the bottom lip "should" sit about the same spot as the rear...i measured and with these front springs, it will have a 2" rake, which i'm not crazy about, but the lip will sit in the same spot front and rear though...i guess if i dont like the stance, i can always put on a set of lowering shackles on the rear, since they are adjustable to 1" or 2"

what do you all think of the decision to get the 2.5" front springs, would you guys have got those? like to hear your all's opinions, good or bad, dont matter, i'm a big boy, i can take itthanks

front

rear (had the front jacked up just abit but you get the idea)

total shot

Re: some progress-got lowering spindles on

The 2.5" springs are a good idea, but I personally would have cut off 1 coil first and gone from there. If it looked good, rode good...run it.

1 cut coil = 2" drop

Some of the guys on here changed my opinion of mild coil cuts vs. new drop springs.

Re: some progress-got lowering spindles on

Explain cutting coils?

If you cut off 1 coil on a coil spring, you will end up with approx 2" of drop, and it shouldn't affect ride quality much, if at all.

I was curious which way your opinion had swayed, sounds like you think it might be ok. Just asking because I think I may go this route with my CC.

Bigarmzz, I love the truck. You got a nice one, no question there! I think you made a good choice with the extra drop. As far as cut coils vs. springs. That is all preference IMO.

I agree. It's not "that" you cut the coils, it's "how" you cut them.

Bigzz, I tend to shy away from anything more than a 2" spring. My experience has been that more than 2" from a front coil has a big impact on ride quality. The 2.5's might be alright, but 3" are a no-no in my books.

As mentioned, I would have cut the stock coil to determine if it gave the height and ride you want. I think it would be really close.

Yes, very true. Use a cut-off wheel, not a torch...the heat from a torch will greaty affect the spring rate and compromise its integrity.

Adam, I changed my mind after reading post from Ken and Scoti and others who are more knowledgable than I when it comes to suspension mods.

Re: some progress-got lowering spindles on

Prior to installing bags i lowered mine with spindles and cut off one coil. The ride was decent and the stance worked for me.

BUT! Be sure to have an alignment done or get used to buying tires very frequently. Spindles alone will have little if any effect on the front end geometry. Cutting or replacing the coil spring will throw it out of whack. Take a look at the control arm bushings while you have it apart.

Re: some progress-got lowering spindles on

I have spindles and cut springs on my project for now. It rides ok. I installed the same kit on my friends truck and added the adjustable shackles in the rear. I had to notch the bed support to clearance the shackles.

Bigarmzz- the 2.5" spindles look great. I think on the choice. I don't think it matters on these trucks what you do. They look good stock, lowered, slammed.

Re: some progress-got lowering spindles on

Yeah, either way you go will be ok and pretty close. But, I like a little rake to be honest. I think it is about ideal to have the wheel wells even on the tire, or better yet the rim. With the rear wheel well being a little bit lower--it's like they were built to have rake.

Re: some progress-got lowering spindles on

thanks guys for the comments

i'm hoping the 2.5" front springs will work ok on there...i did do the whole cuttin coils thing a few years ago, and wore out some tires, so prob wont be going that route

looks like i'm gonna order some drop shackles for the rear, at $39.95, i figure if i dont use them, i can always sell em, but better to have them on hand b/c sport truck direct is really slow at shipping things

I think those springs will work well, but, make sure to get that thing to the alignment shop asap. you will eat tires again and quick. Truck looks really good by the way!

Re: some progress-got lowering spindles on

Looks great . Man i would be very tempted to install the side molding on that otherwise fully trimmed truck . Looks great either way but the molding seems to be more of a rarity these days . As to the alignment . I have used WC 2.5 spindles on two trucks so far and the toe was affected quite a bit . I adjusted it with a tape measure before heading to the alignment shop so my tires didnt get worn on that 20 mile trip . They will toe out ,or was it in , a good bit with just the spindles so take care of them new Proxes .

So your saying 2" with a 3" drop spindle is the best route?
