95 2 door Yukon original 5 speed

I had a thread about this ol' girl a while ago, and I guess I deleted it.

So here is the shorty sweety recap...

Trying to stick as close to original as possible with this one.

OE equiped
5.7L
5 speed (NV3500)
4x4
3.73 w/ factory limited slip
SLT trim

Well I decided to try a few mods since I have to rebuild my FPR. Anyone ever try either of these and have they been worth the effort?

I want to do this to my air cleaner, but I Need to fit a connection for my crank breather tube, and use a TBI spacer so the air cleaner will clear the cruise bracket... this one may have to wait.

You have done way more with the TBI than what I ever have. I just look at mine occasionally. I'll probably need to do something with it eventually. She's got 190,000 on her now.

Try the TBI injector spacer , the manifold to throttle body spacer, and the velocity stack under the air cleaner. Really woke up my 95!

That was my original intention... but I'm not sure if I need the injector body spacer with the blended bores. As for the velocity stack, I am going back and forth on that one. I am still leaning heavily towards the TBI spacer. DMV due dates have me working on another priority project at the moment. I also found out that the diesel power steering reservoir won't fit the gasser because of interference on the rear bracket. More on what and why to come.

What besides the blending did you do to the TB? I have read about an adjustable FPR and some other things but the majority of them seem inconsistent.
Do you need the spacer under the air cleaner for the TB. I know the closest wrecking yard to you is probably Piersonville (sp) right? If you need me to look for one down here let me know, I can probably pick one up local and mail it to you.

I have the air cleaner to TB spacer, but I want to plum a fitting into the air cleaner so that I can eliminate that. It looks like a huge choke collar for the air flow. I want to run a spacer between my TBI and intake manifold just because I think that the air cleaner may hit the cruise control cable bracket. But I honestly haven't even tested it yet

I want to do an adjustable FPR, but not one of the kits that are sold for the throttle bodies. I have been searching the interweb for a compatible in-line that doesn't cost over 60 bucks. Then I will have a plate made to just eliminate the original FPR. I have just had so many leaking FPR diaphragms that I am just sick and tired of shelling out 40 bucks every other year for them.

I am planning on heading down to the LA area to hit some junk yards here in the next few weeks or so. I have been building a list of things to dig for since I moved out here. I miss you pull and pay in CS. Top junk yard ever.

IT LIVES!!!! Thursday the Yukon passed smog with flying colors! got the registration knocked out the same day and have driven her every day since. Even put the old girl to work Friday as a stump puller...



As for everything that I have done (since last year)...

Eliminated the vacuum boost suspecting a intermittent vacuum leak- upgraded to hydroboost. What a difference in braking force too! I also installed the factory power steering cooler. I'll post more on that later.

Head bolt re-torque
Valve adjustment
Plugs, wires, cap and rotor (not that it needed it)
Rebuilt fuel pressure regulator- modified FPR to be adjustable
Throttle body mods shown above

From the little driving I have done so far, I have to say that the throttle body mods were WORTH IT!! I can feel a difference in acceleration, as well as less throttle effort at cruising speed. I will be interested to see how it does on some longer runs.

I'm glad I am not the only one with a shiny stump puller. You's probably does it way better than my 2wd V6.

How about a TBI mod thread! Do you think your mileage improved or more performance oriented results from the mods. Also the head retorque, just did it because it had been setting so long? How far did you run the rockers down? Quarter, half or full turn? I am installing a Suburban rear end in the 92, so I will end up with bigger brakes. My daughter blew up the G80, broke the carrier!

Good idea on the TBI thread! I would be more than willing to do that. I need to find a donor to work on... we have a 93 at work that might become the candidate. as for mileage or performance, I think that will depend on how i drive it. I have managed 20mpg (Cheyenne, Wy-Florissant, Co-Cheyenne, Wy) before. Prior to doing the throttle body I had to keep more foot in it to keep it going, not so much now. I can also get up to speed a whole lot easier.

I should also mention that I have the wide ratio NV4500 with the big gear split between 2 and 3. I also have no 3rd gear synchro left (common problem). This used to be an issue with getting up to speed, but now there is plenty of power to work with.

I did the head re-torque after reading another thread where a member beelzeburb was having similar issues as my 350. His 454 had a stumble off idle and a slight miss. He got the idea from another board. Seemed to work for me too! I put new head bolts on when I built this engine. For the valves I just used the good ol' GM service manual technique. I set the crank to #1TDC, loosened and re-adjusted each rocker it called for, then rotated it to #6TDC (360deg), loosened and set the remainder of the rockers.

In all honesty, I don't care for Hydraulic lifters, even if these are rollers, and I don't care for the GM SBC rocker set up. I could deal with hydraulic lifters if I had shaft mounted rockers. Otherwise, without blueprinting the valve train, the adjustments are only marginally similar. but, hey, its working, so I won't complain.

So how many G80's does this make for your family? I have 200 miles until I hit 220K... maybe I should pull mine and give it to a museum! Was that the extra plate version you built?

Nice looking truck. Only 480 1995s came with the 5 speed. Only year you could get the new interior with a manual in the Tahoe unless you went to South America.

All our g80's blew!
To be fair all of ours had over 200,000 miles on them.
When I can (which will be this one for the Blazer) I remove the flyweight mechanism and add extra frictions and shims to make it a tighter LSD.
When I do the Blazer rear axle, I will do a thread.
It's pretty simple though. You just add frictions and shims till the side gears and pinion gears fit tightly. Then install the axles and C clips and the center pin and your done.

I forgot to mention that a guy on Pirate is doing a SAS on a Yukon diesel. Same exterior color combo as yours. He installed an 11.5 diesel rear axle and a Ford Dana 60 front. It looks pretty nice. I wonder if the diesel versions were more rare than the 5 speeds.
Rumor has it the diesels came with the 14 bolt semi-float and a 4L80 transmission.
Either way these Yukons and Blazers are getting pretty rare.
I have half a notion to get rid of my 2 single cab pickups and keep my daughters Blazer.
I have a trailer to do truck hauling stuff and I would rather have a crew cab pickup.

Wow... Nothing new really. I drove it to Lemoore and back. If I would have started with a full tank I am thinking I could have made the trip without having to stop.

I installed a HomeLink panel in the overhead console.

3 car seats will fit on the back seat.

I picked up a set of Vortec heads (now that everything is back together, go figure)

I have been really busy on getting the Dodge fixed to sell it, as well as getting the "new" truck running... I need to start a build thread on that since it has been a HUGE undertaking.

So nothing major. The How-to on the throttle body mods will probably be delayed indefinitely. I am hiking Whitney this month, so I will take some camping pictures.

3 car seats? Another new addition or a niece/nephew?
What is the new project, between the crew cab, Suburban and maintenance of your daily drivers I figured your plate was full. I did see a storage area with some other trucks there though.
Did you ever spot those crew cabs in the guys yard off 395? You can see them right from the highway.

Fuel Mileage Report:

459 miles Ridgecrest to Lemoore and back
AC running
29 miles in-town driving
over and back the Tehachapi pass

I haven't filled up the tank yet to see how much fuel I actually used, but based on a calculation of the 26 gallons I put in last fill up that is 17.6 mpg. When I fill up, I will post the actual results.
