Re: repair panel questions?

I just was planning rocker panel replacement and found pillars front and rear outer floor board was bad too, Had to cut out kick panel portion too, turned into $550 in patch panels and I now have many hours of panic fear confidence then panic again! still nowhere near done,I can send you pic of my project if you want.

Re: repair panel questions?

Yep, pics would be good for us. As you might know, there will be considerably more rust hiding inside once you start pulling things apart. Usually it's an unpleasant suprise that most of us have experienced from time to time.

Re: repair panel questions?

Rust will hide, go looking for it now while your in there working.

Prepare yourself for what you might find though.

Example:
Pic 1, rocker in place and things look 'okay'.
Pic 2, removing the outer rocker proves different.

Your call.

Re: repair panel questions?

I've had nightmares about VT's yellow blazer tub pictures. It's like a bad horror movie. Just when you think it’s safe to go back in the water, RUST pops out of nowhere and bites you on the @SS!

He is 100% correct though. I am somewhat new to the whole body work thing, but it is definitely a good idea to do whatever it takes to remove all the rust at once and be done with it. You will be much better off in the long run.

Re: repair panel questions?

I got lucky and most of my boxes had already rusted away!

But even the parts that were left were a bear to remove. I don't have a clue how anyone could remove them without destroying them so if you do remove them you may be buying new ones.

A few horror pics... This is another one that looked ok before I tore into it. It actually had a rocker welded over the top of an another rocker!

Good luck, Rg

Re: repair panel questions?

well i got the rocker box off in one piece , a little twisted but useable.good thing i did front cab support is rusted.doesnt look as bad as some of your blazers but i think ill end up with just as many panals replaced. what sucks is the qulity of the triplus panels sucks, like the flanges arent as wide so you cant put the orig. bolts back in.

In that case, what manufacturer would you recommend for better fitting parts?

chevy and rust what a wonderfull relationship of headaches . my blazers body was pacthed up with galv steel and pop rivets and bronze welds . i didnt have to cut off the old rockers i used a hammer to removed them thats how bad it was . the peice you have in the last 2 pics johns70 mine are rusted to nothing and i have to make them . does anyone know if they make a replacement panel for just that peice ????

Re: repair panel questions?

nobody makes them, its actually part of the rear quater panel that ties it together with the inner quarter panel. I thought Wes with Classic Heartbeat was going to try have them made, but i never did hear if he did.

Yes they have been done. They are slow coming out because they are hand made. $129.95 per side.

Re: repair panel questions?

I got a good look at those just last week, they are Sweet!!!!!

I haven't looked closely at mine to see whether or not I'll need them, but I am certainly glad Wes has taken the initiative to produce these for all of us.

Bonus points for Wes!!
